thank you! I will take a look at this.
As with any other service, you have to be careful.
The first thing I would suggest is that you read a basic book on search engine optimization (SEO). I found the "...for Dummies" version to be an easy read that really covers the important topics quickly.
Even if you don't end up doing your own SEO, having read the book will help you choose someone to whom you outsource the project. After all, if you can "talk the talk" a little, you're less likely to be taken.
If you do look for help, be sure that you're not being promised or guaranteed top rankings for certain keywords, as this is a clear warning sign that you should keep your hand on your wallet. No one (except for the search engines themselves!) can guarantee that you'll get a top ranking for any meaningful keyword.
I mean, someone could probably get you #1 on Google for "incredible purple cow dishwasher," but what would be the point of that?
Your site does need some very basic optimization. I think if you read one book on the topic, you can make quite a bit of progress. Just remember, optimization is an ongoing process. It's not a one-time fix, and it doesn't happen overnight. Also, only half the battle is waged on your site..there is also "off site" optimization (which basically has to do with establishing inbound links), and that is critical, too.
I see that your page rank in Google is zero, so you have a little work to do. You can get there, though.
thanks for your response i really appreciate it. i'm familiar with the dummie's books so I will definitely pick up one. Just curious, you said my page rank in Google is zero and wanted to know how you determined that?
Download the Google Toolbar, and then you can easily see the page rank (PR) for any site you visit.
Thank you very much! I did not know that.
If I could make a few suggestions:
It could be easy for someone to take advantage of you with a good sales pitch. If you have no clue what it takes for a site to be optimized correctly, it will be easy to see this.
I would suggest that if you plan on making any type of investment, do research on many companies, and also find as much resources on Search Engine Optimization that you can.
Good luck in your endeavors.
thanks for your response it was very helpful. I am in IT but not on the web development side. I think i know enough about the lingo not to get taken to the cleaners. i'm just hoping that I can read enough books to do a decent job myself and don't have to pay anybody.
Here is a few resources that will not cost you:
Google the following items:
GOOGLE Page Rank
Google Webmaster Tools
White Hat SEO
Black Hat SEO
(BAD PRACTICE- YOU WILL GET BANNED, Make sure you understand the difference)
Any Blog or Blogs or Community Sites (MYSPACE, YOUTUBE, DIGG, etc)
Research Keywords that are popular but not in high demand. "Web Designer" is extremely high demand, and will not be immediately achievealbe if ever for high listings. "West LA Web Designer" is popular and can be achieved over time. "Professional Cool Web Designer " can be acheived quickly.
A wise man once told me, patience my friend, patience.
Just a couple pointers, make sure you use your keywords in the text of the of the site, try to use them between 3 and 5 times. Make sure to use them in your description that is not seen on the page. Make sure your description is less than 250 characters. Don't just optimize your home page, optimize the sub pages as well. I hope this helps.
Thank you! I have a lot of work to do.
If you can find a person who is expert in SEO, then that will be the best.

I am looking at hiring an outside company to do some website optimazation of my website and i wanted to know if anyone has had experience with this. Do you think it's worth it or is it something i can do myself. Also if there is a company you can recommend and how you would rate them.
