    Sole Proprietorship and DBA Question

    phoulihan Newbie

I realize that only one person can be the owner of a sole proprietorship. The name of my business is different from my name, so I need to file a DBA form. Can my wife, who will occasionally help, also be listed on the DBA form even though this is a sole proprietorship?

Hello, and welcome to our community! We're glad you found us. Which structure to use when forming a business is one of the most commonly asked questions posted in our forum. You can search the forum for relevant content by clicking the magnifying glass at the top right corner of any page. If you enter "sole proprietorship" in the search box, for example, you will find results dating back as far as 10 years ago and possibly more. Reviewing some of these older threads may reveal answers to your question. Since laws change all the time, your best option is to seek out the guidance of an attorney and an accountant who will stand behind their work on your behalf.  You can also check with your local chapter of SCORE for free help from business mentors in your area and chosen field.
