    Mission Statement

    moderator_lisa Ranger

A mission statement is a brief, customer-facing declaration of a company's intentions. It can be an instrumental component of marketing as well as a daily reminder to ourselves of the reasons we do what we do every day.

Do you have your company's mission statement posted prominently on your website, where it can be a reminder for both yourself and your customers? Do you use it as part of your email signature or company slogan for advertising? Do you revise your mission statement every so often to reflect changing trends or options? How often do you revisit your company's mission statement to make sure you're still on the same page with yourself and your goals?

          Interesting questions, Lisa.

a commercial mission statement consists of three essential components:

          1. Key market: Who is your target client or customer (generalize if needed)??
          2. Contribution: What product or service do you provide to that client??
          3. Distinction: What makes your product or service unique, so that the client would choose you??

Bart estimates that in practice, only about ten percent of mission statements say something meaningful.

Like you said, the Mission Statement should be revised just like your Business Plan.
