    Customer referrals

Does your company offer referral incentives to your customers for bringing in business, such as discounted services or additional products? Examples: a portrait photographer offers a free portrait print in exchange for future sessions booked/completed through a referral from the original customer, or a free lawn/weed treatment for a customer in exchange for referring/booking a new landscaping customer. This type of symbiotic relationship can be a winning situation for everyone. Would your business benefit from such an arrangement?

Looking forward to hearing your perspectives.

Yes we do, we find the referral incentives work best when it involves new leads, it's a form of networking to gain a larger audience.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, @forthstreet. Is there evidence that you receive more referrals  when offering a reward/incentive for them than you would if you just offered a "Thank you"? Do you mind sharing a little bit about the types of valued goods or services you offer as a referral incentive? Your insights and experience may prove helpful to many of our community members.

We used to offer a financial incentive based referral program, but it didn't really get us much. When we switched this year to offering loyal customers more work on their projects, increased scope, free deliverables etc in exchange for referrals, we got a lot more out of it. I suppose the lesson is, if you have a customer who is regularly paying for your services, offering them more of your services/product could be a better alternative to cash. Especially if your services are highly useful to the target business and normally drive an ROI to them that's greater than their cash equivalent.
