This is an excellent question! You're right that the first project is always the hardest. Once you have established yourself, word of mouth and customer recommendations will open many new possible project opportunities.
My first thought is to establish a website that features some of your previous projects, include customer testimonials if possible, and highlight your experience and successes. This will prove valuable for prospective clients to get a look at what your company is experienced in.
I'm sure some of our helpful members here can provide you with some additional excellent advice on how to *get your foot in the door*. with your software development company. Best of luck to you and let us know what you decide!
Thanks for the prompt response.
But we do not have yet customer testimonials in there, because we do not have any US customers yet. But that is a good point and we will work on putting local Indian customer's testimonials.
Apart from having what Rebecaa pointed out, you need to Register yourself on elance, and slowly but steadily from there you will start getting good projects, I have been working on that for very long.
Thanks for the suggestion. I have already listed on elance and other freelancing sites and I have also submitted few bids also but no response yet. I am still waiting for my first project. But thanks for letting me know, I appreciate.
I agree with the points mentioned by Rebecca and others. I feel, you need to have someone in the US who can communicate with clients both technically/functionally and be as a single point of contact the get the work done.
Thanks for your reply and suggestion.
I am here in the US, in NJ. I also have a US arm of main big Indian company. So, I have representation here in the US. Now the challenge is how to get projects from US market?
We have a software development company in India. Currently, we have an employee strength of about 15 folks, in varied technologies - .NET, Java, PHP, HTML, UI design etc.
We have a couple of local clients but, as everyone knows, if we have to grow and expand, we need overseas clients. Question is: how to get the projects? I know, getting first project would be a challenge, after that, it will be relatively easier.
I am in the US. I also have a small corporation here in the US since 2009, so, US representation is not an issue.
Any advise? Any direction would be helpful.
