I suggest you choose SEO. The more page view you have, the more business opportunity you will get.
I think you cannot truly have a credible online presence without a website. I would definitely establish a blog if you think that will help but tie it to your site. When I was publishing an online ezine for entrepreneurs, I found that I was spending so much time coming up with article ideas as well as publishing the ezine that I wasn't spending enough time on my business. I also had to cut down my social media interactions to a limited few forums (such as this one) because it was taking too much time. For the same reasons, I don't have a blog, myself, but I post every other week on the Business Darlings blog (www.businessdarlings.com). Maintaining an ongoing blog single-handledly is fairly time-consuming and I would rather spend that time growing my business and providing excellent customer service.
I'd have to agree with OfficeGoddess - a website is an essential part of a professional and credible online presence these days. I realize it does cost money, but it's an investment in your business and will likely generate more business and leads from people being able to find you online. I know GoDaddy has an option to buy your domain name and Wordpress hosting in one easy place, so you'll be able to set up a website with a blog for less than $60/year. There are number of free templates available as well. Blogging about your services/industry (on the blog connected to your website) will also help your site rank for certain keywords, which will make it easier for potential clients to find you.
Thank you all. I appreciate the feedback. One more feedback. I started to create a website through Google sites, but I'm running into problem. All I can do is a add a page. I'm not able to truly blog or even add a shopping cart or links to another website where I have my products. Besides wordpress, what can accomodate my services and where people can buy my work sort of like an author website/
Google Sites is more for a basic presence on the web. The more features you want for your site, the more likely you'll have to pay for it.
I would suggest, like others here, that you at least get a domain name. It's more professional and well worth the couple bucks you'll spend.
Since you mentioned blogspot (or blogger as it's known now), do you know you can use a custom domain for no monthly fee? You can either switch a previously bought domain or buy one through a Google partner for $10.
To do that:
1) Log in to your account at: http://www.blogger.com
2) Go to your blog's Settings.
3) While in settings, go to Publishing.
4) Click on Custom Domain.
Now you're in the Custom Domain settings. You can buy a domain there or click on Switch to advanced settings and use a domain you already own.
Blogspot is an option but you also could try Wordpress. Wordpress has tons of plugins available for checkout and that sort of thing. Still, as others have mentioned it is definitely better to have a website of your own with hosting so you don't have to follow free site requirements to put ads on.
If you are selling your business service without having a your own web sites, I will recommends few business web sites as they are promoting small business owners business under the banner advertisement column, or you can write your services under the blog column, as these sites are heavily used by the buyers, sellers, business brokers and other business professionals, may gives some leads to increase selling of your services.
