    Business Licensing

I have been wondering about this one lately. After having a chance to speak with a franchise specialist and an attorney I get the idea, that it is a bad idea to use brand licensing to expand a service business. I have been told that the threshold to determine franchising has been lowered to about 3 considerations, and that if any of them apply to a brand licensing venture, then, the individual state may or may not cause problems.

My current uderstanding is that, a company can license its trademarks, service names, to a company for a fee. Is this correct?

My other question is, " is it acceptable to offer brand licensing for a service business, and if so, what are the rules?"

Look forward to reading your comments. If there are other suggestions on "low cost growth models", I'd love to hear them.
