What is the liability of serving alcohol in the office?

Do I need special insurance-- is it generally okay to do if we keep things under control?

If you are selling the alcohol then you need a license from the state to serve, and possibly a responsible vendors card for anyone handling the drinks themselves. Here in Louisiana (except New Orleans) all servers of alcohol must take a class and get fingerprinted, even if you just work at a restaraunt. Also with serving alcohol you are liable for anything that happens to your employees after they leave the premises. Same as if you worked at a bar and you served a person too much alcohol when they were clearly intoxicated beyond a certain limit, and they get into a car wreck. I used to work at bars in the past and have seen this first hand. It would be good to talk to your attorney and get a statement signed by all the employees clearing you from any liability. This way you can show that you talked about the responsibilities with them and they understood.
