In need of marketing and advertising advice

    gracie.907 Newbie
      Hey,
I just got this job as an assistant for a small construction company in
Anchorage, Alaska. We center around window and door installation for
residential and some commercial places, but were trying to improve and
      grow.

One of the projects my bossman is having me do is to
create a portfoliio to present to prospective clients. I want to show
our future clients how we will install top of the line products, ensure
five star energy ratings, and overall happiness with our services.

      Unfortunately,
I don't really have a clue about what I'm doing! I was hoping I could
get some tips or ideas for putting together this project and hopefully
      making Mr. Bossman happy.

      I'm pretty stuck. Please help!

      Thanks!

            You are being too vague.
Are you servicing your city only?
            A county?
            The state of Alaska?
All the states of the Union? North America?
Or are you able to provide advice on windows and doors instalations worldwide?

            What is your website?
Remember! In today's commerce if you do not have a website, you are considered as NOT being in business at all. The same as Yeallow Pages 20 years ago.

Come to think of it Im not sure if we do have a website. I'm still learning a lot about the company, its only been about three weeks since I started. I will be sure to talk to my bossman about the website. To be more specific, we offer out window, door, repair, and remodeling services to mostly Anchorage, AK and some surrounding ares. Alaska is mostly rural area so we do try to just stick to where the work is. I hope that is more specific.

Here are a couple of key points to focus on:

First, what does your company do well? If there are five other companies in Anchorage doing door and window installs, why do customers hire you over them? Knowing this answer will help you build your marketing to your strengths, plus help identify what types of customers you are best suited for.

Second, whom do you want to attract as customers and what is important to them? Do they appreciate a high level of quality? Do they want a quick response time? Is reliability important? Is costs savings on energy bills the main reason for installing new doors and windows?

Third, when creating your marketing, focus on benefits for the customer and not on you.

I have a variety of blog posts that talk about marketing. The link to my site is below.

It really helped how you broke it down into smaller, easier to answer questions. I have a few more ideas, maybe you can give me a yay or nay?

I was thinking of giving an optional survey for clients to fill out after each job. I think it would be a good way for our company to understand where our strengths and weaknesses are.

Also, I was given the idea of client testimonies and pictures of our work and job sites to include in the portfolio.

There is a slot of $$ saving opportunities with "Five Star Energy" ratings, like up to 1500$ tax credit when the homeowner meets the energy rating requirments. Homeowners will also save, in the long term, on utility bills.

I am still very new to this job and have very little experience in the small business and administrative world. I want to show my boss that I am capable of doing my job and exceeding his expectations... prove my worth. I really appreciate your tips!

                    thanks,
                    Gracie

Surveys and testimonials are always great. I highly recommend you both.

Surveys are an excellent way as you mentioned to get your customers perceptions about your business and the value you bring. Testimonials lend credibility to business when seeking out new customers. People are more likely to believe what other people say about your business than what your business says about itself.

Regarding the need for a business plan, I have a Planning page on my site that details out the information. However, I think at this point in time, you need a SWOT Analysis. Here's a link to a post I wrote about it to help you out:

                        I hope this helps:

You might want to consider Internet
                      marketing for advertisement. You can
focus in on the demographic area and
generate targeted leads to your phone
number or email. Web cosmo and Craigslist
are great for posting ads online. You can also
develop a blog thats dressed up to capture your
                      viewers attention. please email outputmarketing@gmail.com
if you would like for somebody else to set up a successful
marketing campaign for you at a very affordable price.

                        Hi Gracie,

I'll offer you a secret. Find out what competitors are doing for their marketing materials and copy them-- not exactly, but closely.

Find out what you competitors are doing.

Find out your who your consumer base is.

Direct Mail is my favorite. I always get a 1% to 5% response.
