    Advertising in a local newspaper?

    WhiteBrow Wayfarer
Any advice for buying ad space in a local newspaper? For example, am I more likely to get a better deal if I wait the day before print to inquire about space or does it not matter? Do most newspaper companies have people to help design the ad for free or am I expected to come up with my own ad and they just print as is? Thank you for sharing your experience.

It would help if you told us more. What kind of company?? Do you have an advertising budge??
Have you identified your market, its size and location??
You are more likely to get a better deal if you sign a contract for XXX amount of space.
I would guess that newspaper companies have people to help design the ad (for FREE?? not sure).

            Very good question.
            > If the newspaper is local small bi-weekly edition you can negotiate price not just the day before print but at any time. Discounts are available for quantity packages .
            > you make the ad yourself by following some general guidelines from the newspaper. they either have pros who can do an ad for you (you fill out a form where you basically give text, photos, and general outlook of the ad; plus you pay a fee )
            > if you want an integrated ad campaign /paper,flayers, PR, etc../ for long term visibility consult with a media buyer, graphic designer, and marketing research specialist .. or outsource the entire advertising to ad agency.

            Have a good one.

Most periodicals will help you design an ad for a fee.

As far as when to buy it really doesn't matter, but buying in bulk (a campaign) will help.

The feedback is helpful. Thank you. I probably should also broaden my selecting of local newspapers. We have many universities in the area and my guess is that it should be cheaper to advertise on their school newspaper, and this is a target customer demographic as well.
