    Guidance for Small Business on CPSIA (Product Safety)

      The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) is a sweeping new law that impacts a broad spectrum of our economy. From manufacturers of toys, to the kids who play with them, everyone is affected in some way -- even those who make products at home or donate products to hospitals and charities. The law was especially threatening for small businesses that sell or resell children's products.

      A month ago, the official position of the CPSC was that any children's product that didn't carry a CPSC compliance seal would be considered a "banned hazardous product" as of February 10, 2009 and selling it (or reselling it, even in private like on eBay) would be illegal.

      Update: Today (February 10), the CPSC issued a small business guide that more specifically defines what's required (and backs off of its former position on some items considerably). If your business makes or sells children's products and you haven't seen it yet, you can find the guide here:
