There are so many event halls out there why not just expand your current business to make it even better?1 of 1 people found this helpful
Yes, there are quite a few but not in the the town I live in. Well, not enough to please the people who rent them. Some are too small and the few that are large enough are in the next town. The one we have that most of us use, needs so much repairing and the air conditioner does not work sometimes. Last event that was held there was so hot guests were fanning themselves with plastic plates. I'd like to incorporate my decorating business into that. I will offer my decorating services but I will welcome renters who want to decorate on their own or bring in a decorator. I've seen these in Houston and we don't have anything like that offered here. I'm going to make an appoinment with score and go from there. Thanks for your input, I do plan on expanding but I'd like my own hall, also.
Contact your local fire department to determine a hall's seating capacity. They will send a staff member out to review the space and tell you what seating capacity it has, what keep away zones from doorways you must maintain and other issues to ensure that the building is up to code. Don't simply go off of what previous owners may tell you.
I purchased a restaurant and had to make changes to seating after the fire department stopped by and told us we were in violation of certain codes even though the seating remained intact to what the previous owners had for more than 7 years.
As far as your statement regarding "I have no idea where to begin", can you be more specific as to what other help you need? Do you need a checklist of actions you must take? If so, you can register (go to the Register tab) at my site, Small Biz Break, and download business templates and forms at no charge. Inside you will find a start-up checklist among other useful forms.
I hope this helps.
Thank you, very much, this is exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely visit your website.

Mu husband and I have talking about this for some time. I have a party decorating business I run from home, but I want to purchase, build or buy an existing building and turn it into an event hall. We've looked at some existing buildings but they are so expensive I think we would do better building our own. I have no idea where to begin. How do you find your seating capacity? I know where to get tables and chairs and I have all I need for parties, weddings and any other event. Getting a loan won't be a problem for whatever else we need. Any advice out there?
