Hi,
I owned a free dating site (htto://www.mysassydate.com) and wondering is there any way of monitizing your website instead of using just adsense? If so, how?

Thanks

      Hello there!

I think once you gain more online traffic, you can reach out to businesses that cater to your industry (wedding invitations, real estate agents, flower companies, etc) to sponsor local events and ask them if they'd like to advertise on your site. The nice thing with your type of website is that you can really narrow down and target your advertisers to the right users with the information they provide you. Very similar to how Facebook advertisements work.

      Cheers,

        Hi Maximus,
I have a flower affiliate on the website, but seems like no one is ever interested. I have put another affiliate (Slim) which also doesn't seem to have any interest from my pool of daters. I'm still scratching my head of what might interest them, any idea?

        Much appreciate with your help.

I think simply posting affiliate links is a dangerous move without providing a TON of good content before hand. For me, I have a ton of affiliate sites in which I've spent months on end just putting out good, helpful content and after you build a good trust/relationship with your users, then you essentially pitch the affiliate offers to your users. Rather than just having a few links on your site, write about one or two of the products and tell them how it might provide value to them.

I would say that your blog could use some work. It doesn't have a personal feel to it. I analyzed your site and it looks like you guys aren't doing anything to draw in organic visitors from the search engines. That might be a good first step.

            Hi Maximus,
Thanks for the tips. I have tried to get some organic visitors from submitting articles to ezines and also using adwords, promoting the sites in social networks and putting advert in online community sites. Also from links from forums and using some SEO tools like neurolinker. But for all, it doesn't have much traffic coming in. I tried to find the appropriate keywords and that have prove to be a strong competition out there. I'm pretty sure you've been in this market for long enoug, are you able to advise what I did wrong or any are which I could improve on?

So to address your concerns here for others who may have similar issues, submitting articles to the article directories is great, but like any other SEO campaign you do...you need a solid strategy. You need to make sure that you are targeting the right keywords and that the article parameters are set properly.

Adwords does absolutely nothing for your organic traffic. When you turn off your Adwords funding, your ads will disappear from the search engine results pages.

I think I would say that overall, it sounds like you may not have a set plan for your SEO strategy. I think before you do any more link building, I would ask you if you are targeting the keywords that are not only competitive, but also are going to be realistic to actually rank for with your current site performance metrics. Once the site is optimized, I would make sure that your internal architecture is effectively mapped out. Then, you can start building links. I hate to sound like a broken record, but I can't stress how important it is to have a strategy in building these links.

              Cheers!

                Hi Maximus,
Yes I have a set of keywords which I use all the time but I guest the competition for those words are too strong for me to be even listed. Maybe I should try to research on the more appropriate keywords to use. I just got myself a nich finder program and that will hopefully help me achieving that. Do you use any free program for link building which you mind sharing?

                Thanks.

                  Hello,

Yes, I think a solid keyword research session is definitely an absolute MUST simply because that's the foundation of your online marketing strategy right? If you target the right keywords, in time you should see results as long as you are consistent in your link building efforts. On the flip side, if you target the wrong keywords, you will have wasted a lot of time, effort, and money.

To answer your 2nd question, I think niche finders honestly are not good ways to build links. I would even go one step further in saying that any sort of "link building" software is not only walks the thin line of being black hat (breaking Google's SEO policies), but builds the same links as other folks in your industry. I think good link building efforts are those that include the business owner's personality. When I first started affiliate marketing 6 years ago, I used all of these types of free link building software and got many of my sites black-listed from Google. It was when I got into SEO a little over 2 years ago that I started experimenting and have learned how to build some great links.

I've experimented with 100's of link building techniques and I kid you not, there are only 36 techniques that I have found to be successful every time. It just goes to show you that link building is something that should be taken very seriously as this is really your only weapon at out-ranking your competitors.

                  Cheers,

                    Hi Maximus,
thanks for helping me understand. I always thought that there's always a way a shortvut to beat the competitor when it comes to ranking. I have tried a lot of link building and i almost give up! i don't have any guidance, just reading from post an article. Do you mind sharing some of your 36 techniques? my email is paddy@mysassydate.com.

The best way to know what your customers want is to ask them. Have you done any online polls are sent surveys to your current members asking them what services they would be interested in? If you are able to gather data from your members and visitors as to what they are interested in, this can be useful in approaching businesses that provide those products and services to sign them up for ads or sponsorships on your site.

            Hi Sologuide,
This is another brilliant idea. No so far I haven't done any survey on what my visitor want but just assuming all this time as www.mysassydate.com is a free dating site and what else could they want rite?!?. I will create a poll and start sending them. Hope not all of them are just spammers!

            Thanks Sologuide

    Yes you can.

AdSence is a a revenue channel by showing some ads to your visitors and pay you based on each 1000 visits or ad shown. You can have your revenue stream.

You can offer free service to your audience to improve your traffic/visitor and obviously you need to advertise to find more traffic/ visitors - Investment phase.

You have audience but you have competitors so you need improve your service/functionality to compete with others - Improvement/development phase.

Your audience looking for date what can you offer them to make revenue? this is a key question, flower, toy, book, tips or anything you may wonder ... - Building revenue model

As long as your offer functionality/traffic stays high you have visitors and each visitor is a possible buyer and all you need is what do you want to offer them, with what price range (high price or cheap price) and how can you improve your revenue and traffic.

This model need more time and investment but if you can do it in good way generates more stronger revenue model and you will become a seller or affiliate for others. This models is more partnership or reselling model.

    I hope this helps

      Hi SEOSEMGEEK,
I will need to revise my affiliate as I think the one I have for my website might not be the cheapest flower option. I have just put in amazon link banner and hope this would have more interest to them. Adsense will provide some revenue but we're at the mercy of google. They could easily pull the plug on you and that's it!

      Thanks a lot.

    Hi Sassy
to bring in more visitors to your site I would target long tail keywords. The dating niche is very competitive, and if you're targeting keywords such as "dating, find true love, meet my soul mate and such" you will be at the bottom of the dating websites. Look for long tail keywords that are not normally used and still bring in traffic, i.e. "the best dating site in Brooklyn NY" you get the idea. Make sure that these longtail keywords have less than 75,000 competing pages (these are the pages that Google shows you on the right when you do a search)
make sure that when you do your research the term you use is in a phrase format " how can I get a date tonight in Chicago"
I would drop Google Adsense and apply to Netflix to become an affiliate. They pay you anywhere between $16 and 25 to get new customers. What better way to please your traffic...A date and a movie. apply to Google affiliate program and choose Netflix.
    I hope this helps you!

I absolutely agree with Marcus about going for the long-tail keywords. Remember, the number of pages that you see in the search engines is not indicative of how many of these actual results are "competing pages". Say you do a search in Google for "dentist in Seattle", Google returns 1,420,000 results. Now, common sense tells me that there are NOT over 1 million dentists in Seattle. I see way too many people with horrible teeth to have such a high influx of dentists for that to be true. :) Many people think that this number of results means how many websites there are that are target this keyword. The reality is that when the vast majority of people perform a search in the search engines, they are performing a broad- match search. This means that you are going to get every website in the search engine's database that contains "dentist" or "seattle" anywhere on the page. Clearly, this is in no way indicative of how many of these sites are actually optimized for "dentist in Seattle".

The way to find the # of competing results is to use advanced search operators...specifically, the intitle: & inanchor: operators. The intitle operator returns results that only have the keyword in the title tag of the website. The inanchor operator returns results that only have the keyword in the anchor text of an inbound link. So if you combine these in a search query, you will get a very clear indicator of who's actually targeting the keyword "dentist in Seattle". So
with the advanced search operators, your search query would look like
      "intitle:dentist intitle:in intitle:seattle inanchor:dentist inanchor:in
inanchor:seattle". Look at that, performing this search for
competitive results gives us only 852 results.
BIG difference from 1.4 million results eh?
      Hope that helps!
