Holiday sales should surge this weekend, but retailers are taking a pounding. Most hope that next week as well as the weeks following Christmas will allow them to blow through their inventory and still make some sense of a profit.
I pray for all the retailers to have a strong next 2-3 weeks, Lord knows they and our economy needs it, but spend wisely people!
My wife and I went to the mall yesterday afternoon (Monday). The mall was packed with shoppers.
We were very surprised that so many people were out on a Monday afternoon.
This is the last weekend and maybe employees will receive year end bonuses to spend.
I sell retail and wholesale. My personal business has not been affected by the storms (in Missouri). In talking with my retail accounts, they have not seen much problem except of course where they have no power. A couple of them got generators and opened up and said their were surprised by the people out buying.
Same as what Ed noted for my retail clients. We planned for a "three surge" sales season from the start (expected a lull between Black Friday and now), so the recent storms you mentioned had more of an impact on distribution for this upcoming second surge than on actual retail sales.

Now that we are in the holiday season, just wanted to take a pulse check - how is everyone doing? I know that there has been some major storms in key areas of the U.S. that might of impacted spending, so I've heard that holiday sales are expected to surge this weekend. Thoughts?
