Celebrity spokespersons are normally represented by agents. Contact a cross section of talent agencies, describe your business goals and your intended campaign, and then ask for recommendations on available celebrities who'd best fit your promotion. Unlike political or charitable causes, this type of promotion is just a job to the celebrity. If you can afford her fee, you'll probably get her services. The more she is required to do, the more it will cost.-

Y Not Mag Nov 24, 2007 1:27 PM (in response to Lighthouse24)Hello Lighthouse24,
Awesome feedback. yes, my next step was to seek a Talent Agent however, I think contacting the Talent Agencies themselves (like you suggested) will increase my chances. Thank you
Also, the celebrity has to fully support/understand Y-Not's Philosophy and goals. The celebrity will be given a portion of the proceeds of the LLC. In other words I will give that celebrity a portion of the business. This will be arranged by my Tax Accountant & Attorney. How does this sound to you?
Please provide any additional feedback.
Thank you,

For the type of talent/work you seem to have in mind, the deal is usually straightforward -- you book her, she shows up and does the job. The profit sharing arrangement complicates things a little because once you identify and select a likely spokesperson, you'll have to "sell" her manager on the idea before you can move forward.
How the manager views the deal relative to his or her own financial goals will be a more of a factor in whether you get a "yes" or "no" than what the celebrity thinks. So be sure to have very good financial projections ready -- the manager is effectively your "investor," and he/she will most likely be a money management and investment portfolio professional. If you come in with an amateur presentation or questionable figures, you'll get a flat "no" -- and not many second chances (since managers and booking agents all talk to each other).
Of course, fortune could work in your favor -- the perfect talent may be having trouble finding work (especially if the writer's strike continues), and her manager may have steady revenue coming in from other celebrities -- and therefore be open to having this client work with you under a more speculative arrangement. Sounds like you have a lot of fun ahead of you -- best of luck!-

Is this venture affiliated with YNOT.com? If not, and if you're underlying products/services are not aimed at the "adult" Internet market, the name similarity may be confusing. Likewise, any perceived connection to the porn industry (actual or not) may limit your access to some celebrities.-

Even though we do have some access to celebrity, mostly in the entertainment field (music and modeling), I'm not sure that there is one way to approach them, it depends on the level of celebrity the person has. Every celeb has a manager, pr person, and/or agent/agency to manage their interests, that might be a good start once you have everything together. I would recommend making your site the "hot" place to be and that would be an easier sell, everyone wants to be a part of the new "hot" thing.
PS. When will http://www.Y-Notmagazine.com be online? Need help developing it? We have built ecommerce/community sites like (http://www.reggaecountry.com) and social network sites like (http://www.celticlounge.com)
Let us know.
Good luck!
