Re: Should I create my own website using online software, or seek the help of a professional?
LUCKIEST Jan 4, 2019 6:45 AM (in response to antiloch)Welcome to the Community. In my experience it is always better to retain a professional.
Do you have a business plan??
Most businesses need an Accountant, Lawyer, Banker and today a good Web Designer.
The money you spend today, can bring bigger future returns (if spent wisely).
Good luck, LUCKIEST

Welcome to the Small Business Community!
Having a great website is important for any small business. Often, the website is the customer's first point of reference to a business. In turn, the customer could quickly "judge a book by its cover" making an instant opinion about that business simply based upon its website.
I found a few articles that might offer you some assistance regarding websites:

Re: Should I create my own website using online software, or seek the help of a professional?
rockpapercopy Jan 6, 2019 11:50 AM (in response to antiloch)Hi Antiloch!
It all depends on your previous experience in building websites - if you have set up [even private] website before, you should be able to create your own website, using simple out-of-the-box website builder, such as Shopify.
Making it SEO friendly, looking professional and convert visitors into leads [capturing email addresses or sales] is best left for professionals.
Depending on your growth strategy: if you're after organic, slow growth and self education, go for DIY route. If you want instant results and a professional looking website within 10 days, in order to start trading instantly, definitely hire a professional.

joycecpallc Jan 21, 2019 12:24 AM (in response to antiloch)Hi Antiloch,
Considering the fact that you don't have the necessary web design skills, I would recommend to go with a web professional. However, Having a website is one part of having the complete online presence. Also, create a google my business listing of your business because sometime they show it over the search results and it's very easy to optimize.

carolinasmith Jun 17, 2019 3:09 AM (in response to joycecpallc)I agree with you. You can sort it all out for yourself, but these will be inevitable mistakes. Moreover, the professional has a great experience and wide eyes, this is important when creating.
Be sure to do a lot of tests and check on different devices so that everything works equally well.
Best regards,

ascaff Jan 25, 2019 11:43 PM (in response to antiloch)do it yourself.....early in a business is the best time to learn the skills you will need - later your are too busy. if your biz requires a website then you need to know the fundamentals so your business is not at someone else's mercy. ie- webdesigner/webmaster holds your backup hostage for payment - this is a common practice. or your webmaster is just to busy and you need something changed immediately.... check out https://www.hostingadvice.com/how-to/wysiwyg-web-builder/ use site like that to help you learn - they have support to help also. once you know basics you can make an educated decision if design and maintenance if for you .... GOOD LUCK !

juliastaromana Feb 8, 2019 4:25 AM (in response to antiloch)2 of 2 people found this helpfulShould you create a website yourself or have a professional do it?
It would mostly depend on you and what you feel would be a valuable use of your time.
If building a website is an experience you think would add value to you as an individual and as a business owner, then you should definitely go for it. Just remember to manage your expectations. You said so yourself that you don't have a lot of experience with web development. Website builders are easier to use now and you can easily build a simple website even without coding experience.
But if you want something that's truly customized for your business, you may need to spend more for additional features with website builders or they might even recommend that you hire their in-house developers to customize your site for you.
There's nothing wrong with delegating this job to someone else. Just make sure :
- You know exactly what you want from your website. When you outsource this job, you'd want it done right and you'd want it done fast. Having a clear idea of what you want from your website (the way it looks, how many pages it's going to have, features) will make it easier for your web developer to build the website to your needs
- You hire reliable developers. Don't just hire some stranger of Craigslist. Go for web developers you know or hire from reliable online platforms. And I think it goes without saying, make sure your have a contract and pay your developer well.
- You ask questions and regularly follow up on the progress of your website. When outsourcing, most people think you can just set it and forget it. But to make sure you get your website on time (and to prevent your developer from running off with your site), you need to communicate with them regularly. And don't hesitate to ask questions. You're paying for it. We expect, even welcome, business owners who want to understand how their website works, how it integrates into their business, and how they can help take care of it.

ivansilvio Feb 13, 2019 11:30 AM (in response to antiloch)1 of 1 people found this helpfulTo create your own website is relatively easy these days. So many companies let you create a free, professional looking website for example Website Builder | Create Your Own Website in Minutes GoDaddy . However the most important thing these days is a website that is designed to rank you well in google. For example for this business Weddings Venues Malta & Weddings in Malta we have hired a professional to build the website. While it might look similar to what you could created, with the help of the professional company we rank in the first page of google for most keywords.
Hope this helps.

dythpixo Feb 14, 2019 5:03 AM (in response to antiloch)It might seem that is better to hire some experts to have your site done, but I believe that if you do some research, learn about web-design and stuff that can lead to a huge result!

mujji Feb 25, 2019 2:58 AM (in response to antiloch)In my experience creating a website using online tools without having a vast knowledge of design & development will hurt your business. it is better for your business reputation to hire any professional freelancer or website development company.

niaran May 11, 2019 6:25 PM (in response to antiloch)Professional, it's one of the best options, because even if that software is one of the best they just can't undestand some factors that can be withing developing. So professional eye is better.

nabalahmed May 16, 2019 6:40 AM (in response to antiloch)Hey, one thing you need to keep in mind that if you;re going for with someone professional its good for you in a sense of most professional people work done process but it has some dependency on people to done this work, instead you go with online software or platforms like Godaddy, Wix, etc who has leading designing and development services online, Instead you can go for professional for this option.
All the very best.

jenniferbraud May 29, 2019 9:35 AM (in response to antiloch)Hello! I would be in your place on the basis of free time, if you have time, you can master the creation of a site in a few days, now there are plenty of resources on the Internet.
But if there is no time, then it is better to turn to professionals.

Re: Should I create my own website using online software, or seek the help of a professional?
james.becker Jun 26, 2019 11:36 AM (in response to antiloch)Well, I think you shouldn’t waste your time and it would be cheaper for you to hire a professional who will help you to set up the site. What is more, you’d better work with this person further in case there are any issues or things which will need fixing. It is better focus your attention on some important things which only you can handle. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pay attention to site creation at all. Checking the progress from time to time and analyzing how things work would help you to stay flexible in case of any issues.

aishley Jul 22, 2019 7:13 AM (in response to antiloch)If you think you can do it with what exactly you want to have in your website, as well as if your budget is low then I recommend to use online website builder. But, if ther's no budget problem then why not hire a professional website designer, that'll be a good option.

sanders Oct 18, 2019 4:16 PM (in response to antiloch)I always prefer to outsource it on freelancer.com. It is less expensive if you do it offshore
My business needs a website that is one of the main sources of value to the customer. It needs to provide information on the product, as well as list the customers involved in the current program using photographs and a short description. I don't have a lot of web design skills. Wondering if I should create a site myself or have a professional do it? Thoughts?
