hi everyone.... does anyone know where can i get help getting a goverment grant to start a new business
I suspect that if your in a low income area that you will have a hard time with cash flow in your daycare. I have had clients that were constantly taking people to court for non payment that were not in low income areas. You will also have a lot of local and state regulation and certifications to meet before you even open for business and if you do not have the resources to even start, you are going to have an up hill battle.
It sounds like you have a heart for these kids and maybe you can help in other ways such as approaching your neighbor and city council to start a community project that involved these kids in after school programs or your local Church may be willing to start an outreach program. There is a model for this, a Church in Big Bear Ca called Community Bible Church started a small youth community center on their property and they run it jointly with the city.
I am not trying to discourage you from starting a business but if you do not have the funds to even startup, you are going to have a very difficult time and there may be other options that you have not looked at that can help fulfill your passion for helping the youth in your community.
First off you need to know there are no government grants to specifically start a business. Grants from the government are geared to fulfill a specific purpose such as research, technology etc... Most people have bought into a lot of advertizing fluff to sell their how to get a grant book or system.
Now having said that, if you are looking for a Federal grant then you will want to first register your company for government contracting. The steps are outlined at the sba.gov's website. Once there click on contracting and then on "register for government contracting" You can also learn more about grants on the sba website by clicking on loans and grants.
Finally once you have completed the steps you needed to do for government contracting you can then also apply for grants. You will want to check the "catalogue of federal domestic assistance" at cfda.gov for what federal grants are available and what the criteria is that your company has to meet in order to qualify.
There are also state and local program you will want to look into that are not always in the form of a grant such as some states will help pay the salaries of interns in a cretin industry to help with employment in their state. You just have to do some research on what programs your company may qualify for. Some are geared toward women or minority owned business's.
I would also contact a professional grant writer that has extensive experience and can give references. They will be more in tune to what types of grants are available for your particular situation and they normally take a percentage of what they get you in grants for their fee.
There may be privet or nonprofit organizations that offer grants to specifically start a business but there are no Government Grants.
