Google +1 - Is this the rise of Social SEO (SEOCIAL)
Craig Elie Apr 24, 2011 9:50 PM (in response to lholland)It's Googles lame attempt at going up against facebook likes. Much like Googlewave "the twitter killer"

Google +1 - Is this the rise of Social SEO (SEOCIAL)
localseogiant Apr 28, 2011 7:10 PM (in response to lholland)Unless Google finds a way to make this really cool, I don't think it will have much success.

smallbus01 Jul 26, 2011 11:40 PM (in response to lholland)Might take a while before we can really feel any changes. Facebook is still king of Social Networking. Doubt that it will change soon. But knowing how Google go about things, it is quite possible.

Re: Google +1 - Is this the rise of Social SEO (SEOCIAL)
Rainbowrite Jul 26, 2011 6:25 AM (in response to lholland)How Google+1 works is when you +1 a site or page under your Google account, and later a friend or connection in your circle searches for the same thing, they'll see a little icon and text below the result that says "Loren +1'd this". The idea is that the person searching will be much more likely to go to your site seeing a connection's +1.
So, if your site's valuable and you get a lot of +1s, you encourage their circles to click over to you. That has the potential to be huge. The +1 sites they clicked on also show up in their Google Plus profile.
Does all of this help SEO? I guess it can. SEO is about optimizing for search engines, and if your site shows up as a recommended or +1 page by many people, you can possibly get more visitors. With Google being king of the search engines, you can get a lot of free traffic this way.
It certainly doesn't hurt to get the button. I'll be getting it myself very soon.

Moderator Jim Jul 26, 2011 9:32 AM (in response to Rainbowrite)I'm just concerned about Google's commitment to the new platform. They tend to start strong and then quickly fizzle and fade after they do the official launch. Remember google wave? Google voice? Both were supposed to set the world on fire but didn't. So it'll be interesting to see what they do with this once it gets from the closed circle it's in now and opens up to everyone.

Re: Google +1 - Is this the rise of Social SEO (SEOCIAL)
thirddd Apr 24, 2012 4:37 PM (in response to lholland)I think that Google's +1 integration with search engine results is an attempt to push users to create Google Plus accounts. From what I've seen so far, the +1 button doesn't affect website rankings very much. I have a few sites with hundreds of +1s and haven't seen any dramatic improvement in search engine rankings. If +1s do hold any amount of weight in the search engine rankings, it's very minimal. Instead of worrying about +1s, everyone should be taking a look at what Google's Panda update has changed in terms of their search ranking algorithms.

vnavguys Feb 10, 2012 5:59 PM (in response to lholland)If you own a website and want social activity, and deep indexing you better learn to embrace Google Plus. Google rules the house, this is their way of implementing social activity into their ranking algorhythm. I think its pretty cool, the circles formula actually works for getting traffic to your site. Plus you can have a google group and use it for a discussion. I am going to start one for this very sites topic, it should be an amazin tool.

Re: Google +1 - Is this the rise of Social SEO
vnavguys Feb 15, 2012 7:17 AM (in response to PowerLineSEO)I think it would be a mistake to think that this has no weight in ranking your website. Google has stated that freshness and "activity" are going to be a factor in ranking. If you sit down and really put some thought into, it cannot be ignored. A lot of people think Facebook does nothing for your business either, that its simply a social platform. Well guess what, thats where a LOT of people are. If you sit down and really work through it, those are people you can market too, it does work, I have done it. The same goes with google plus, granted its not a force to be reckoned with yet, it will be. Those who see that are on the horse and riding it to win. If you are in the online marketplace, you cannot ignore what Google is doing.

Moderator Jim Mar 5, 2012 1:20 PM (in response to vnavguys)Just putting this out:
Recent reports indicate that Google+'s traffic was beaten by MySpace, of all things, in the past few months. Since their actual usage is enemic, how soon should businesses wait for a turnaround before giving up on the platform altogether?

Re: Google +1 - Is this the rise of Social SEO
esprintguy May 14, 2012 11:17 AM (in response to lholland)It's a similar idea with Mark's like button. However, it would be very hard to translate the functionality of this button into a really useful one. Besides, the probability of seeing the same site visited by your "friend" displayed in the search results is slim.

Craig Parker Jun 22, 2012 12:23 PM (in response to pstonier)I'm very dissatisfied with lots of google results lately, because I dont' like being in a bubble. I think +1 is going to make this worse. I've switched to DuckDuckGo for the most part.

Roger Pelt Jun 25, 2012 5:40 AM (in response to lholland)Google+ is Google's new social networking. At the first look Google+ looks like combined site of leading social networking site Facebook and twitter. But having some excellent features.
Hello Everybody,
Recently google introduced +1 button in their SERP's. For those who don't know about this feature here is the link address - googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/03/introducing-1-button.html
