intechspecial Feb 3, 2011 9:48 AM (in response to SBC Team)The upgrades are great!
I have a question if you don't mind. You stated that you have upgraded the community software. I am curious as to what software you are using. Did you customize an open source application or is the site hardcoded from scratch?
Just curious. Thanks.

aimtoplease Feb 3, 2011 9:32 PM (in response to SBC Team)The one thing I have found frustrating here, and maybe you've changed that as well, is when I post a reply it sometimes doesn't make it through your screeners. I advise small, new and home businesses, my local BofA branch even sends people to me for advice when they come in to open a business account but seem ill prepared for the business world.
I would often have my answers rejected, only to see obvious spammers make it through, so I have mostly stopped visiting this site. Hopefully, you are now more like similar small business forums who don't seem to have these same problems.

KathleenF Feb 4, 2011 8:06 AM (in response to aimtoplease)Hi aimtoplease,
I have escalated your comment to the SBOCTeam. We should hear from them today.
The main thing we need to be concerned about when posting to the community are loan, capital or investment requests will be removed. We also have asked that members do not post their contact information within their post. We have new profile capabilities which you can set open for everyone to see or make them not available. Please link to your profile or reference it as necessary instead of posting email address and that within your post.

SBC Team Feb 4, 2011 11:43 AM (in response to KathleenF)Hi aimtoplease,
First of all- welcome back to the community!
We understand your past frustration regarding posts being removed from the community. Kathleen provided some great advice in the post above. I'll add just a little more information.
Posts to the community are typically removed if they violate the Community Guidelines or our User Agreement. You can read more about those at the links I have provided.
Please understand that spam is a huge problem for online communities across the internet. Occasionally, legitimate posts may be caught in spam filters. We apologize in these instances. However, we are doing our best to combat spam and are continually refining our processes to lessen the occurrences of legitimate posts being flagged as spam.
We truly appreciate your understanding and involvement in the community.
Thanks,
The SBOC Team

wordperfect Mar 8, 2011 3:59 AM (in response to SBC Team)Hi Kathleen, nice new set up, worth waiting for!
In your post you say; "You can choose the fonts, text colors" but...................
I can see provision for Bold, Itliac, Underline, and Strikeout, but..... am I missing something?
I ask because now, and it has been a few months since I was here, I find my composing font is about size 4px and it is REALLY REALLY hard to read what I have written!
I am now 5 months older since last visit so would really love to be able to change my pref to say font 10, or 12!

KathleenF Mar 8, 2011 9:17 AM (in response to wordperfect)Hi wordperfect,
If you click advanced editor that is located on the right side of the reply box that should give you the options.
I am testing it now to see if it works.

Re: We've upgraded the Small Business Online Community (SBOC).
KathleenF Mar 8, 2011 9:19 AM (in response to KathleenF)Looks like it worked for me.
Let me know if you need additional assistance. You will have to set the options each time you enter text but I do believe the "use advanced editor" greyish link on right side of the reply box should work for you!
Glad to see you around.

Re: We've upgraded the Small Business Online Community (SBOC).
wordperfect Mar 14, 2011 9:05 AM (in response to SBC Team)Hello again, I will tread a little more cautiously this time!
I have just been updating my profile and noticed when i viewed the finished master piece, all the paragraphing and formatting had merged and it was one long well. ..............you can see.
I remember some time last year having a private Email discussion with one of the SBOC team about this, and the possibility of having the ability to at least paragraph the input so it looks decent.
He said this was one of the options available in the shiny new format due in 2011.
Now, as I said, being careful with my words this time, i have had a fairly close look for little links that direct me to an advanced option or what ever, but...
Am I missing something.........again?
Cheers

KathleenF Mar 14, 2011 11:52 AM (in response to KathleenF)Ok I have some follow up for you, Wordperfect.
At this time, there is no way to change the formatting in a user profile. Though, on a positive note, the platform developers are committed to improving the profiles in an upcoming release. We just don't have an ETA on that release.

We've upgraded the Small Business Online Community (SBOC) to the latest version of the community software. Our goal was to streamline the navigation, and improve the functionality and user experience for our community members. Hopefully you'll enjoy the benefits.
Most of the changes will be subtle. But, there are few "under the hood" improvements that you'll notice right away, including:
- Easier navigation: When you log into the upgraded platform, you'll notice a new "Your Stuff" menu. This menu makes it easy for you to bookmark interesting content, browse discussions you're participating in, and quickly set your account preferences (just to name a few).
- New posting capabilities: We've revamped our message posting editor, allowing you to unleash new levels of creativity. You can choose the fonts, text colors and formatting you like. Include bullet lists, numbered lists, tables and, of course, smileys. Not to mention your new, ever trusty advanced spell checker.
- Ability to edit your posts: It can be frustrating to make a typo in a message and have the error live on for eternity. In the upgraded platform you'll be able to easily edit your posts to have them read the way you meant them to read.
Again, these are just some of the enhanced and new features in the upgraded SBOC community platform.
We value the feedback of the members here in the Small Business Online Community. If you have any questions about this upgrade, please feel free to reply to this message.
Thanks!
The SBOC Team
