Your Answer: No, (recovering from heart by-pass surgery) and could not find work.  I paid the start-up costs with my savings.

Question: What has been the biggest challenge in running your company?

Your Answer: The biggest challenge always, "is to get a steady supply of customers" etc. I did a lot of knocking on doors, car lots and small business offices that might need cleaning.

Question: What’s been the biggest opportunity that came from owning your business?

Your Answer: The ability to expand, (grow) and get new equipment, better supplies and products for a better job.  This expansion has led to my motto. "A job well done never goes unnoticed!" etc...

Question: What has surprised you most about being your own boss?

Your Answer: Nothing, (there is no surprise?)  I was always my own boss even when i worked for a company because i treated my job as my own business every day.  That is the only way to enjoy it?

Question: Is there a success tactic you’d like to share that could help other business owners (i.e. implementing new software, tactic to grow sales, etc.)?

Your Answer: Yes, It's called honesty, integrity and fair dealings with customers.  "Don't try to make your entire profits on one job!"  In this business of carpet cleaning there are some who, (bait + switch) customers with a low price... then once in a home escalate it a lot more, or explain they need to charge more for the cleaning task?  I have a one price quote.  No hidden ($$$) costs!  Customers respond to honesty.

Question: What’s the best piece of advice you could give to other small business owners?
Your Answer: Always keep your eyes on the competition, (watch what they are doing) and learn the differences so it might help you more.  Also, use the internet for seeking supplies & products.  In the past 5yrs I have used the internet increasingly with a large amount of savings, insight and usefulness for all my cleaning needs.
