The Real Story of AZ Family Dental

Version 4
az-family-dental2-.jpgQuestion: What is the name of your business?
    Your Answer: AZ Family Dental

Question: Where is your business located (city & state)?  Who are the customers you serve?  What products or services does you company provide?
Your Answer: Glendale, Arizona.  We serve people from throughout the Phoenix area.  We have a loyal base of patients who are willing to maintain their relationships with us even when their addresses change.

We continually seek referrals from our patients as well as regular marketing in the nearby community.  We provide complete dental care for the entire family.

Question: When did you start your business? Why did you decide to start your own business?
    Your Answer:
I purchased an existing practice in 2012 from a retiring dentist.  I have always wanted to be a positive influence in my community.  I enjoy providing a very necessary service and meeting new people.

Question: Did you quit your "day job" to start your business?  How did you initially fund your business?
    Your Answer:
I worked for 3 years doing operations consulting during my undergraduate degree.  I enjoyed that work but realized how my true love was for dentistry.  I left my job when I was accepted to dental school.

I initially funded my business through and SBA loan.  The loan process was very tedious but it allowed me to acquire my own dental office right out of school.

Question: What has been the biggest challenge in running your company?
    Your Answer:
My biggest challenge has been wearing so many hats.  I find my day filled with not only what I love the most, my patients, but also taking care of the day-to-day "housekeeping" items ranging from staff management to plumbing and landscaping!

Question: What’s been the biggest opportunity that came from owning your business?
Your Answer: I enjoy helping patients achieve exceptional dental health.  I feel our entire staff is wonderful at developing positive relationships with our patients so they are happy each time they leave our office.  They feel confident that they are in good hands!

Question: What has surprised you most about being your own boss?
    Your Answer:
I love being involved in every aspect of my practice.  I am continually learning new ways to increase productivity and improve techniques to provide the most excellent dental care for my patients.

Question: Is there a success tactic you’d like to share that could help other business owners (i.e. implementing new software, tactic to grow sales, etc.)?
    Your Answer:
Our practice has seen a steady growth since I purchased it in 2012.  I would say the biggest reason for our success is that we treat our patients like friends and family.  We strive to give the same recommendations for each patient, explain things so everyone can understand, and provide care that patients are interested in getting.  This has led to our patients not feeling "pressured" and allows them to decide what care they want and when they want it.

Question: What’s the best piece of advice you could give to other small business owners?
Your Answer:  Do something you have passion for!  If your passion is great enough, you can weather the storms of the economy, patient fluctuations, and rising costs.
