Question: When did you start your business? Why did you decide to start your own business?
Your Answer: November 2012. I decided to start my own business because I wanted to share the extensive information & resources I had accumulated over the years, into one website to help other working parents. We had accumulated a huge folder of information on family activities, time & saving ideas, links to discounts, deals for children & families, community programs, gift ideas, businesses and restaurants where we could take our toddler, low-cost services, etc. Since telling our family, friends, co-workers, & other parents about our business & website, we have attracted a lot of attention!
This is an innovative website which connects working parents with the local information needed in a more convenient, accessible and condensed format so we can all save time & money.
Question: Did you quit your "day job" to start your business? How did you initially fund your business?
Your Answer: No. I have kept my part-time job, and I'm working on my growing on-line business in the mornings, evenings, and weekends.
I initially funded by business by being really creative. We needed to get ahead but couldn't afford to get another loan, or extend ourselves any further. We worked with the companies who held 3 of our largest monthly bills.
I worked out a payment plan so we could pay them one to two months later, in exchange for the added interest at the end of our loans. No problem...we suddenly had $1,500 which we could fund our business.
Since then, in just a couple of weeks we have created quite a following for our business and have made the money to pay the 3 debts earlier than expected!
Question: What has been the biggest challenge in running your company?
Your Answer: Time & Money. That's it. The growth potential for this company is amazing.
Question: What’s been the biggest opportunity that came from owning your business?
Your Answer: The biggest opportunity that came from owning my business so far, is that I'm able to connect with more working parents and find some solutions to make our lives easier. I enjoy pooling the information & resources that are out there, making them more accessible to working parents, and sharing information about what I have located. I enjoy having the opportunity to truly make a difference
Question: What has surprised you most about being your own boss?
Your Answer: How easy it is and how much I enjoy the challenge.
Question: Is there a success tactic you’d like to share that could help other business owners (i.e. implementing new software, tactic to grow sales, etc.)?
Your Answer: Find out what people need, not just what people want, then provide it to them. I know it seems simplistic, but it works!
Question: What’s the best piece of advice you could give to other small business owners?
