After a short time in GA, we moved to upstate NY. A beautiful part of the country. Needless to say, I felt at home. The weather and nature is the same as in Sweden.
My husband deployed twice during our 4 years there and so I was looking into things to keep me busy. We thought about opening a small business, but didn't know what. I looked into beads and got caught up with their beauty and the stories I could tell with them and so I began to make Jewery in our house. Friends heard and saw them and bought them, then us decided to look for a space to open a retail store. To make the story short, we found one in a mall that is Americas oldest running mall today- Paddock Arcade in Watetown, NY. I opened my store full with handmade Beaded jewelry, sterling silver jewelry as I had gotten into silversmithing by then too and beads. It was very rewarding, though at the same time somewhat frightening as it was my garantee that the Jewelry I made was to last beautiful and intact. My husband deployed and I was left to manage the store. I had a great time and fun for the 1.5 years that I had the store, til' the Army decided to send us through KY to Ft. Bragg, NC.
Our daughter was born during our time in NY with our business. It was a great time that I do not regret doing and taking the chance of opening a Small Business. I today manage the store through the intenet www.nordicss.com til' we once again settle for a few years and I can open up a retail store again.
