So from all the critiques I received for my website newheightsdomains.com Im now searching to have it designed professionally. Now how does someone design your page for you if your not there? And is it better to outsource the page? Any suggestions Im very new to this e-commerce thing?

There is quite a bit of risk when hiring a web designer.
You want to make sure you review their portfolio, see if you like the designs, and read testimonials.
Unfortunately, many web designers do not give you the option to have input in the design.
You are hiring them to do what they "do best."
it is the risk you have to take when outsourcing this type of a project.

I wish you the best of luck,

Do you tell the chef how to cook your meal (aside from 'medium rare', please)?

Do you have input into how an accountant does your taxes?

Again, I find the pervasive notion that somehow, design is a commodity that anyone can do, and as a client, your design 'ideas' have equal or better weight than the pro who does it for a living. In other words, your checkbook trumps my experience and know-how.

Does that you a pro would design something in a bubble, without any input at all from the client? Hell no.

I ask a LOT of questions, about your business, your likes/dislikes, websites you admire or not (AND WHY!), and whay your goals for a website would be. (as any webdev pro should). But don't fool yourself into thinking you can design nearly as well as a professional. It's not fingerpainting.

Take a look at these links, and remember - you worry about content and describing goals, and after carefully reviewing portfolios, talking to references, talking to web dev pro, let them worry about their job.

Great, when would you like it done? Yes, you can get it designed without you being present. Why? Because you can communicate your concepts and desires either in email or over the phone and then those are translated into a design. Check out this guys designs and tell him I sent you and you will receive a discount. --Rich

I think the best way to find a designer is to look at other websites. Do they look good to you? Do they navigate well? To begin I would earch on terms you would use for your site. You might the look and feel of a site but it may not coordinate with what you are trying to accomplish with yours.

Good luck,

I Myself am a budding Web Designer among other things and Any of the requests I have received have been detailed and precise.... When you ask your web designer to do your site give them details like "I want my logo to be a prominent part of the site." or "I want it to appeal to youth but not turn away adults." Give them details on the important things, but leave them enough room for creativity. Nothing gives an artist more satisfaction than putting a little bit of themselves into a project. Good Luck with the project! Hope this helped.

there's 2 ways to get a website pay a big pro (lots of expenses business to make one) or find what you have in the market for less, a friend get a simple website for 700.00 I'm self employee (weight loss office) and I do websites for friends for less money here the sample:

http://www.hmaidservice.com/

what I do is ask the person to chose a template and I fill the information of your business (is really easy to do) and if you want accept credit cards you need to open an account in paypal (is the way to make business in E-bay)and put the buttons in your site and you receive the reedits in you checking account

here the page with the templates and for a while the domain name is with no cost (is kind a trial with no expiration date)

http://www.swishzone.com/index.php?product=sites&af_id=87068444&gclid=CIu_wKW9wZACFUtyOAodECewXg

its easy for a new business if you want advertise in google or city search for 30.00 (minimun accepted by google) you see your webpage in the big search engines with AD-Words if you r intersted let me know

Thanks for the heads-up, I pinged him to see whatsup; I'm not sure what has happened to his page, he is up in Canada his email is info@westcoastcreative.ca. He does some extremely nice and inexpensive design work. I'll post his contact info below. Yeah we build websites too, but that isn't our main focus, and I wouldn't shamelessly promote us in a forum like this to do someone's website. We are SaaS application developers first and foremost, building applications for the web and websites just happen to be ancillary things we do for our customers that are trying to build businesses that use the web as a foundation. --Rich

P.S. what I'm really looking for is investors interested in getting behind some pretty cool web 2.0 SaaS apps that will be fast growing start-ups to IPO in two years.

These small firms, they come and go so quickly around here.

You have to ask, if the webdev firm can't keep its own website up, what are your chances that your site will work?

9 years and running, happy clients all the way in my land.

The dude is a designer, not a web programmer. Don't get a programmer to design for you, get a DESIGNER. Don't get a plumber to do your architecture. Don't get an architect to do your electrical. This guy just emailed me and turns out he was right in the middle of uploading a new site now. He has 326 designs that are uploading, so give him a minute.

BTW, he works with programmers like you, so you should get in good with him so he can send work your way. -Rich

I do all my work, myself, so my clients are assured that the designs will translate to proper web code and look and work great.

Too many times, designers (esp. print-trained) come to the web without understanding web delivery (downloads, bandwidth), navigation and usability. We help sidestep those issues, and deliver the whole package, one stop shopping.

We also know how to launch a website behind the scenes, and not take out the client's traffic opportunities (grin)

Happy Holidays!
