How helpful is the expensive service? Or is there a cheaper alternative to building credit for a company that has been in business less than 2 years? Thanks.

I created my business in February of 2006 with a fictitious but didn't conduct any business. In October of 2007 I made it into a LLC and obtained an EIN number. In the past two days I was able to open up a credit line with Staples and Office Depot. The Office Depot has a credit limit of $1,000; however, I'm trying to build up my business' credit to obtain larger lines of credit.

Opening up a line of credit is Easy. You have already opened two.
It takes Time and a good payment history to obtain a larger line of credit.
Do you have an Accountant?? Are you paying your bills timely??
Question How Large a line of credit and why??
I am a SCORE Counselor and SCORE talks about developing a Business and Marketing Plan.

I have a cousin that is an accountant. I haven't had any bills yet, I finally got two accounts now that I will pay on time if not early once I receive the cards. I'm trying to get a line of credit for about $20,000 to $30,000 for real estate rehabbing. Thanks.

Hello http://smallbusinessonlinecommunity.bankofamerica.com/people/BLJRECEO I think I can help you with this, my name is Felton Lowery, some people call me "The Smart Guy" but I'm not really that smart, but I was & still am very aggressive when it comes to getting answers when dealing with business. To be totally honest with you, the purpose of the DNB number is to use your business as the guarantor, as appose to yourself. Now keep in mind this, you do a rehab deal, a bad business partner, a bad deal, etc., you don't want to be the fall guy, especially when we are talking about 20 & 30 g's. The real question is how is your personal credit? If your personal credit is fair, I would be will to show you a few techniques to get the money you need. If your credit is so/so, I'm willing to show you how to shot your business credit through the roof in a short period of time but you definitely will need a DNB but they offer several different packages.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT use D&B creditbuilder. You can do the same, for cheap. There are boards out there that show you exactly how to build company credit. I find it ironic that dnb charges people money to populate a credit report.

First, you'll need to call dnb to assign you a DUNS number. You can tell them that you are bidding for gov't contracts and they will give you a free DUNS.

Second, apply for revolving credit. The vendor must report to dnb. Here is a list of "easy" accounts you can open. They've all reported for me. None require personal guarantor (maybe home depot if you are at 2 yrs). All you have to do is to set up an account with them.

Staples
Dell
Home Depot Revolving (not mastercard)
Uline
Quill
Office Depot
Shell
Philips Conoco 76

Third, start making purchases with the vendors. Don't need to go out of your way to buy something you dont need, but assuming that you own a business, you need supplies anyways, and you need gas, right? Try to make a few smaller purchases (i.e. splitting your order between OD, staples, quill). When you get the bills, PAY THEM OFF right away. Don't wait til the due date, you actually get better points if you pay it off faster.

I've been doing this for about 5 months now and the results have been fantastic. Company credit is built using this method, so you can get bigger things such as line of credit, mortgages, etc.

So far, I have the free DUNS number, an account with Staples and Office Depot using my EIN number and not my social security number. However, the Home Depot account required my social security number. Thanks a lot everyone.

D&B is a total mess. When they contacted me to list my business in the D&B I jumped on...only to have the telephone start ringing every few minutes with someome trying to sell me something. Since I office about half the time at home and was really busy this was annoying to say the least...after about 4 hours of this I finally asked one caller where they got my number from. Her answer D&B. I called D&B and got in to some VP and wore him out. I steer SO clear of D&B ... all they are is a junk telemarketers list. A banker can tell more about how you handle your business money by looking at how you handle your personal money.

I agree with you 100% DomainDiva. I had the same thing happen with my tech company. I have yet to involve my consulting firm. I would rather provide my financial statements and let the bankers look at them then a D&B rating.

BuynSell knows the game DNB plays and has some very, very, true points, now to add an old chinese secret to the point he has made. To skyrocket your credit express, you should do this: If Staples gives you a $1000 limit, purchase a laptop for about $800, but never take it out of the box, just don't open it. Make sure you check their return policy to see how many days you have to return it. Generally it is 30, always return the laptop, ipod, printer, whatever on the 24 day. This way you never use your credit or your money & all the DNB notices is Balances & Zeros. This will shot your credit up faster than an a man in a nursing home looking at a sexy nurse, lol.

There are many "games" you can play, but in essence, a strong business is a strong business and a weak business is a weak business.
