If I have a business that is an LLC (i.e. consulting business) and I wanted to start another one (i.e property management), can I setup the property managment as a DBA under the LLC so that it is also covered? or do I have to file a seperate LLC for the property management?

You can have another DBA for the Property Management activity under the same LLC.
However, from liability standpoint, it is advisable to form a separate LLC to carry on the Property management activity.

Let me know if you have any questions.

You should incorporate the second business or form it as an LLC on its own.

From the insurance side as long as both entites are named insured and maintain common ownership you should have no problems under your general liability and workers comp if applicable.

H1t3ch:

You can create both DBAs under one LLC, but I agree with Renu - from a liability standpoint you should create the two businesses under separate LLCs. If you run into trouble with one business - financially or legally - you don't want it to drag down your other business, too.
