We have been using Peachtree for the last 5 years but now we have a new owner and have changed how we operate. We are involved wtih HVAC service, repair and new installation both residential and small commercial. We need a program in which we can print work orders (which then get turned into invoices) and also have the capabilty to set up alerts for routine maintenance plus all the other accounting issues that a small company handles.
Have heard a lot about Quickbooks but not sure it can do all this stuff or even if Peachtree can. there is a newish program called Wintac which can do the work orders and probably the repeat service reminders/calls but it has issued with its general accouting procedures - like no numbered accounts are used nor can you modify payroll accounts to include all the lovely tax rates we have.

There is an OpenSource Web based business management system called NolaPro which offers a free download of the software and offers paid support if you need that.

NolaPro - Free Web Based Business Accounting Software

You can run it from a local web server for everyone in your office to access. It handles sales, invoicing, inventory, and so much more. might be worth checking out.
