It is true that if you cannot find anything out about this person then there is a good chance that it is a scam. However, when getting into anything along these lines you have to do your research, ask for references if something doesn't seem right. Whoever wrote to you must have left some contact information so request information on both of these people. If they are legitimate they will be willing to supply information to you and references if necessary.

There are legitimate companies and people out there who either want to help you fund your business or want to help you find funding for your business but it is essentially up to you to find out the truth about these people. If someone is looking to finance you they shouldn't be looking for money from you. If they are then look elsewhere. There are companies that are looking to help you find financing and they will look for a fee for this. If you go this route then it is up to that company to find legitimate investors or lenders for you. The bottom line is this: do your research because in the end no matter who is or isn't scamming you you need to be looking out for yourself.
