I want to create my own Small Business Website... plz Help!

I am starting an events/wedding planning business. I had my logo designed and now I would like to create a website, but I would like to try doing it myself. I thought about using Microsoft Small Business Live, or Yahoo Small Business, but I am not sure which is better. Has anyone used either of them, or some other vendor for website creating and hosting? If so, how was the experience? I'm not familiar with any of the web development tools, so the product has to be easy, and very user friendly. My goal is to have it done professionally after I get my business up and running.

Why not try out the free version of Microsoft Small Business Live? This way you will get a feel for how to select and edit website templates, upload pictures, and so forth. You can always upgrade to a subscribed account without losing anything you've worked on. I can't remember how the domain name (which you will want) works. I also can't remember what it costs.

With Yahoo, a basic plan, which includes your own registered domain name, is $12.95 per month if you pay monthly. They have better rates if you pay every 3, 6, or 12 months.

I use Yahoo Small Business. I like the "add-ons" that can be purchased at a later date, such as their Ecommerce (incorporating a shopping cart) webhosting plan.

- I would suggest to anyone who does not have website development experience to "test-drive" free web-hosting plans because it could take a few weeks to learn how to make changes and fully understand all of the available options. Why pay while you're learning? Making changes (adding/removing text/graphics) after a page has been designed can be a challenge to some because of the way these programs are set-up. **

You can also have a professional one designed now and just enhance it down the road. There are some low cost providers that will work with you. This way you might avoid some fees such as Additional Storage, Additional users, Domain name re-registration.

Many hosting companies provide templates that make it easy for you to design your own website. I just recommend that you consider your skill level and time involved to complete the site. Give it a try and then decide if the site really shows who you are and how you want to be represented.

If yahoo charge $12 a month you might as well have one professionally designed, we would charge $200 for a 5 page website and that is including hosting and your own register domain name with no monthly costs. You can visit our website at www.xenondesign.co.uk

I agree with the previous posts. If you want your site and business to be successful it needs to look professional and function properly. Designing it yourself and using a poor Web Host is a risky chance if you are not trained properly. I recommend talking with a design agency and finding an affordable Web Host. When looking for a Web Host, as a small business, I would find the least expensive Host with the best uptime and service, along with any add-ons you may need. One of the better hosts for a small business is http://www.TheBlueKingdom.com - their plans start at only $3.99 w/ 99.9% uptime.

I'm apart of a small business web development group called JCP Snow Productions and we do low prices but professional web sites. We can add every thing from a login to a shopping cart.
