Hello PG, I myself am tied w/ u in being the biggest skeptics whenever I have to part w/ my hard earned $$$$. I had many reservations about the B2G course until I read your blog. I decided to attend it in San Antonio this weekend but had a death in the family. I am still looking forward to attending a near future one before June. Are you attending the Wash DC conference? Like you mentioned, you are keeping up with some of your alumni, well I would to be part of that group, to share a wealth of info. Please let me know how u r doing after the coures, ie., any contracts? Thanks, SanAnto

I have just completed day 2 of the 3 day seminar and feel like I just left 'Slick Eddie's Used Car Lot'. I have received probably 2-3 hours worth of useful info and about 1 and1/2 days worth of weak anecdotes and forceful sales pitches. I do feel that there is a lot of potential in pursuing this kind of work but I would not work with this group as I do not trust their integrity after these two days.

How many students are in attendance and r they going to Wash? What hotel is it at? U can call me @ 210-269-7658 now or before tomorrows class. Thanks for the info, SanAnto

Ted,

My husband and I purchased the B2G 3day back on 2-24-09. After going home and looking at our finances and different things, we decided we would hold off. We called the next day to begin the cancellation process. We faxed all the necessary paperwork and received an e mail confirmation of our cancellation request. We understood that it could take up to 30 days to receive our full refund. It is now April 18th and still NOTHING. I have called. I have been on terminal hold. I have sent e mails. I have left voice mails. I have received promises and ........at this point, I am pretty much disgusted. How hard is it to process a refund? I can't seem to get any kind of response when I call B2G so maybe you could explain this?????
Thanks

Sananto,

I am in a class in California. These guys are very good at keeping everyone excited through the first day to avoid the cancellations. The second day was an almost total waste of time with the sales pitches coming on strong. The end pitch was for services costing about 38k, but, if you sign up now, they discount to about 18k. I don't need to do business with people who market in this manner. We had a full class of about 120 people. I don't know about Washington. I assume you mean the GSA conference? caltex

If you used a charge card for your payment call your charge card company and ask them to assist you.

I totally agree, credit companies are good at resolving issues like that, they are definitely on your side.

Based on what I have seen and heared, this company really has no integrity. I'm glad I made the right choice not to give them business.

I actually wrote them a check from our business account but they converted it to an electronic transaction the same day so I can't even cancel the check through my bank. I have filed a complaint against them through the Better Business Bureau as a start and I'm going to continue hounding them in the meantime. If I have to, I do have a friend that is a lawyer. I was just trying to avoid that whole process. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Here are some email addresses that will start to move things along when you start contacting them repeatedly and mentioning Fred Steinberg's criminal and civil charges as posted on this forum and that you have now started to post on the Internet your refund requests and the B2G Institute's complete lack of response.

Interesting comments. I'm just curious DTTCore - how much Gov't business do you currently do?

I had dinner with one of my graduates that has gone from $100k to over a million in 2 1/2 years and was just invited to exhibit in Japan at a GSA Show.

I had one person who read this blog call and ask for facts and some of my personal references. I gave that person facts and references and they are now going to attend.

I called another last week who has done $300,000 in awards in a space of 4 months.

I had one get two contracts from the Army within weeks of each other - one for $900k and the 2nd for $1.2 million.

I was asked by GSA to come to Kansas City last week and sit on an industry panel. They discussed the GSA projects that are coming under the stimulus package. I'm about to get yet another of my graduates their GSA Schedule award in the next few days.

Being 'associated' with the institute and being one of the instructors, I will talk facts with anyone. I said in class that there was $2.6 bil just in California last year where only one bidder showed up. That came from a government website. I said in class that there are only 9,000 active GSA Schedule holders out of 26 million businesses in the country and I am capable of helping people get on Schedule. And those active Schedule holders do over $36 billion per year.

The facts are there. Can you do it yourself? Absolutely. That is reiterated all through the three days. The class as with the packages, consulting, etc are tools. You can pound a nail with a rock or a hammer or a nail gun. All gets the same results. It's all a choice - as is the class and the consulting.

I am in the Washington, DC area; the federal contracting captial.

There are a wealth of free and affordable solutions here to help you start selling to the government.

Ken Larson wrote a book called : Small Business Federal Government Contracting . Its free and its online on his blog: http://www.smalltofeds.blogspot.com/ or http://www.box.net/shared/urvfdolqj5

Its a MUST READ. He keeps everything simple so that people without federal contracting experience can understand.

There's good info in there - a few changes though - he only lists 3 small biz type and SBA recognized 6: Small, Woman Owned, Vet Owned, Disabled Vet Owned, 8(a), SDB, and HUBZone. Also, Small Disadvantaged Business status is now self certified. But good read - talks about the basics. I especially like the bid/no-bid matrix. Always a key point if you want to allocate resources to go after a bid.

Another one you can get from Amazon is Federal Contracting Made Easy by Scott Stanberry if you want to just get resources and go it on your own. This was one of the best I read a long time ago.

103. Re: Does anyone have any knowledge of the B2G Institute? Apr 21, 2009 3:56 PM

My business partner and I recently attended the Atlanta event at the W Hotel at Perimeter Center. We found the basic information informative and we each took copious notes during the sessions we attended jointly and individually. My partner went to view the product bidding process, while I stayed in the teaming bidding process. In the separate sessions they focused on these two aspects of goverment contracting.

During the event there was a heavy emphasis on the following:

  • Many solicitations go unanswered, with the figure quoted at 25%, and that if you can find these opportunities, and you are the only bidder, then you win the contract by default. Two manners of finding these kinds of contracts were described - one of which appears to be erroneous if not misleading.
    • First, contact the procurement officer and ask for bids that are outstanding under $100,000 targeting rather obscure agencies that many businesses do not pursue. These seems reasonable, and they did represent that they had a comprehensive database of 6000 procurement officers, and their contact information.
    • Secondly use a website such as www.FedBid.com. On this particular site there are buttons to the right of each buy number labeled "NO BID". We were initially under the impression that this designated an opportunity with NO OTHER BIDDERS. What that actually means however, is that YOU do not want to bid.
  • During my session the "Assignment of Claims Act of 1940" was highlighted as a federal act that REQUIRES the federal government to PROVIDE funding for large contracts. However, I think that "provides" is not really the way that should be phrased. Facilitates, perhaps, and thus far I've been unable to find anything that supports this claim. I'm not surprised to hear that they have an affiliation with a factoring company that would predicate its willingness to loan (and profit of course) on the fact that they are intimately involved in the structuring of the deal. They did not mention that they had such a company in pocket - only that the federal government is "required" to provide funding.
This said, we're about a week into verifying what they said. We're disappointed to hear of Fred Steinberg's legal misadventures. The fact that the "no bid" label was not what we anticipated it to be or that other information approved to be partial truths is of concern as well.

We are MOST interested in Teaming... but have spent about a week on FedBid.com. What we've discovered thus far is that facts such as "small businesses are evaluated as businesses grossing under $30MM" also has the caveat of "less than 500 employees" - it's not both - it's EITHER of these conditions. So companies we initially targeted that we wanted to team and bid on their behalf with were "grandfathered" in as small businesses.

We also received absolutely ROCK BOTTOM pricing from vendors - only to discover we were bidding against manufacturers that had given significantly discounted prices unavailble to us or their distributors.

It clearly isn't as easy as described - for instance 3-4 bids won a week on FedBids.com would be incredible.

We are looking DILIGENTLY for a site that reveals the bids that have not had any bidders at all, but so far have not found one. I'd be fascinated to know if one actually exists.

Regarding the comments on the database. The nature of that beast is that this information is ever changing... and updates from the field are the only way to maintain it. It's not necessarily a rip off - unless most of the data is so stale that none of it is relevant... and updates are not available on a regular (i.e. daily or weekly) basis.

Personally, I would find day to day handholding to create a multimillion dollar contract worth sharing the pie with a third or fourth party. I have no problem making or sharing money, the more I receive the more I have to give, of course!
