How do you know the market has bottomed?

You should really only invest money you are willing to loose in equities. So:
How active will you be in managing your porfolio?
How much do you have to invest?
What, exactly, is your timeframe?
What is your financial goal for investing; retirement, quick gains, diversification?
How much experience do you have?

All very important questions to consider. And before they are answered, your question can't be.

That is a loaded question - what is your risk tolerance? What is the balance and mix of your current portfolio? Are you familar with the financial industry? What types of returns do you need/want? Do you want income or are you looking for a quick flip?
