Starting up a clothing boutique and I need some help please!

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and also a new boutique owner. I will like to thank you all in advance for taking the time out to answer my quesions. I am in the process of ordering some clothes for my boutique, I want my boutique to have unique pieces but I see that a lot of wholesalers sale in bulks, also being that I'm new I don't want to overstock my boutique, could you all help me with this please. Oh yeah also, should I ask for samples, please advise. Thank you all so much.

Congratulations with your new venture! I would suggest that you buy in bulk but see if you could mix it up. For instance, if you have to buy 100 items, see if you can split up the selection. Some wholesalers are willing to work with you. I would request sample items, but see if you could travel to trunk shows to see what's out there. Also, I would like to suggest you selling your items online also b/c that's easy money and it can help with selling your bulk items you don't sell at the store. Good luck!

Do you know of any other boutique store (in your area or elsewhere) that you could partner with in your purchasing? Might think about calling other stores in other areas that may want to partner together in purchasing.

If you can get samples - and they do not cost very much - ask for them - all they can say is 'no'

Congrats on starting your own business! I'm a college student at Providence College and I design clothing. My clothing line is very diversified being that I have a team of unique designers. Our products range from tshirts and hoodies, to dresses for females. We've just started up, and are in the process of releasing the website in a couple days. We don't sell in bulk, but I think it would be a good opportunity for us to be able to show you some pieces. Being that your starting up, looking for new talent might be a good way to stock your boutique easier and with less expenditures.

You should attend trade shows like the Magic Trade show, I think it is in June. It can help with networking and meeting designers that you might want to showcase in your boutique. I work for a distibution company and we also specialize in EDI support and training. We always network at the tradeshows so that we can meet designers that need help with shipping their goods to boutiques like yours, or Majors like Nordstroms and Macys. It is an interesting thing to do. You will get to meet a lot of people that might want to use your boutique. It might also help you if you want to know what is coming out and what is most popular.
