Sure, Google Apps allows you to have email, instant message, and make
high-quality voice and video communication without launching a separate
application. You can access Google Talk right from your Gmail inbox.
With Google Talk you can have 1:1 video conferencing (like Skype), but
do it right from your inbox - there's no need to launch a separate
application. Further with Google Talk you have the added ability to
send files. You can see a video demo and learn more about Google Talk
at http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/messaging.html#.
Google Talk is the instant messages application that comes with Google
Apps.

I run a used electronics buy/sell shop and I don't have a website since my business is all done in person. What Google applications can I use for free to make sure that when someone is searching to sell their electronics/or wants to buy used electronics, they find my store? Remember I don't have a website now. Can my store still be found online by Google?

Hi Jeanne,

First, let me say that we've been using Google Apps internally in our business and it has been a huge help. (Also, I don't know how I was able to visit customers before Google Earth!)

Does Google have any plans for online collaboration tools that we can use with our customers?

Thanks!

Jeanne, what has been the most popular Google App for small business owners? How are they using it?

I have a gmail account and just use it to email correspondence to my friends & family. It also has good spam blocking features which I like. Other than that, i don't do much else with it. It was suggested to me that I at least send the emails to my cell phone??? Are there any other helpful gmail features that I should be aware about?

Yes, actually our Google Apps solution for businesses includes online
collaboration tools, such as Google Sites and Google Docs, where you
can set sharing privileges. You have the ability to share webpages,
documents, spreadsheets, or presentations with your colleagues or even
externally to customers. To learn more about using Google Apps to
streamline collaboration both within your business and externally, see
our Help Center: http://www.google.com/support/a/?hl=en.

Historically, it's been Gmail. With Gmail, productivity will be
significantly increased because you receive enough storage that you
never have to delete email. Furthermore, there's no need to organize
email because of the powerful search function and email/IM threading.
Instant messaging is embedded in Gmail so you can respond to an email
in real-time. Also, your Gmail is available from any computer, at any
time so you're no longer limited to answering email at your desk. Gmail
is simple to use, but not simplistic in its functionality, which mean
less time required for user training.

Furthermore, Gmail is part of Google Apps, so you
get all the benefits of using Software as a Service. This includes
decreased TCO; improved functionality, usability and efficiency in your
day-to-day activities; and a fast and effective search function to
reduce time spent searching. You also get to experience the Google
speed of innovation with new features coming out all the time so
you have the most up-to-date service. To learn more about how Gmail
can save your business time and money, see
http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/details.html

In addition to Gmail, Google Apps Premier Edition includes both messaging and collaboration tools like:

Google Talk which is our instant messaging client which gives you voice and video chat and file sharing
Google Calendar to help you keep track of your appointments and see your colleagues schedules to create meetings
Google Docs to help you create online word processing documents, presentations and spreadsheets that can be shared and edited in real-time by multiple users
Google Sites to help you create webpages to capture information, share files, photos, videos and other rich media.
Google Video which allows you to share videos within your business

Yes, you can do a lot more with Gmail
for your business. If you like the spam filtering capabilities in
Gmail in your personal account, Gmail for your business provides a
99.9% uptime SLA, 50 times more storage than the industry average, an
increased daily sending limit, advanced inbound and outbound messaging
controls.
