Hi, my online shopping cart is charging out of state customers in FL a sales tax. I am not authorized to collect sales taxes for FL. I am in PA. My hosting company is saying that FL charges tax for ALL online purchases and I must collect it. Huh?

Please help, I don't want to get in trouble and this is just weird. I could end up collecting tax for all the states and sending in money all over if this keeps up. I am dreading the paperwork for additional states.

FL does not require sales tax be collected on all internet transactions. Only if you are a dealer that has nexus with Florida - that is inventory in the state, location in the state or employees in the state and thus are required to register and collect FL sales tax. It is true Florida does tax purchases of non-exempt tangible items (such as office supplies and equipment) made over the internet - but if the vendor is not required to collect, then the customer is required to report and remit. Your hosting company may have misinterpreted this to mean tax should be charged on all sales.
