I am in the process of starting a single person LLC where I will have the home base in WA but all of the work, financial transactions, etc will be in CA. Do I need to Register the company in WA or CA or both? What would be the tax implications?

This is an area where i am an expert of structure of corporations. www.businessformationgroup.com I would advise you to start your corporation in the state of nevada and FQ it in the state of CA UNLESS your employees you intend on having in the future will work out of WA in which case you need to FQ in WA but DO NOT FQ in both states.

There are exceptions to those rules in each instance specific to business owners' needs

What is FQ? And no employees planed anytime soon.

Why NV? And what about Delaware?

When establishing your businesses, eventhough you may not have an employee, now is the time to structure things, because later it can become very costly if impossible. Seems you are on the right path there. I am not all to familiar with delaware and I would consult with a corporate attorney, although if 8 yrs of doing this has taught me one thing, Nevada is where you want to go. And my apologies mate. FQ = Foreign Qualification

Don't forget about TN - easy set up, little hassle.
