We'll today I will start packing for my Scentsy Cruise I'm so excited I have never been on a cruise before, plus with a ton of women imagine what the ship will be like? LOL I am just so thankful for my life, although I have to remind myself a lot, and that I could have it a lot worse lol. I will get down in the dumps then think wait a minute look what you have! I know I need to learn to be happy with what I've got and quit thinking ok I have this now I want something better. Whats wrong with being Content? I know I have to always have goals but it seems I'm never satisfied and it gets frustrating. Is this wrong or am I like most of the population? Just curious what people think. Example: We lived in a town i couldn't wait to get out of, moved back to where i grew up, missed the town we had lived in, moved back and now I want to go back to the town I grew up in...these places are in two different states. So how to be content and happy where I'm at is a challenge for me.

Ok off my soap box, I just want to say I'm so thankful for my family and friends without them I would be nothing, also I'm thankful that I have found the friends I have on this site and other sites the computer world is an amazing thing. I'm very grateful I found Scentsy it has lead me to wonderful opportunities. I have met a lot of wonderful people along the way and now I get the chance to go on a cruise something I would have never done without Scentsy.

So my question to you, is there anything with being content? I know we always need to stive to become better in what we do but how do we learn to be satisfied with what we have?

Sincerely,
Natalie

Interesting question, Natalie -- because I think it highlights two different business and life philosophies. One isn't better or worse -- they're just two opposite "drivers."

You seem to be inwardly-focused. You're examining your business and your life from your perspective (I'm drawing that conclusion because your post uses the word "I" 33 times). You're questioning your personal success, satisfaction, and contentment (should I be happy with what I have, or strive to do better?). There's nothing wrong with having that perspective or asking those questions. It's what "stokes your fire" and gets you up in the morning. It works for you.

I am more outwardly-focused. I constantly question whether the team members I lead, the clients I serve, and the people I've taught are successful, satisfied, and contented. Are they happy with what they have, or do they believe things could be better? If it's the latter, it means that I still have worthwhile work to do. That's what gets me up in the morning. For me, real "contentment" comes from other people's acknowledgments that I've made a contribution that helped them in some way. Those acknowledgments might range from a timely payment for services to a handshake or hug with a sincere "thank you" -- but the moment I receive it is when I feel most satisfied -- and then, I get back to work (my batteries fully recharged).

The point is, what you should do or I should do or anyone should do is probably "built-in" to our heads, hearts, and spirits. It isn't (and shouldn't be) the same for every person, but I think all of us generally have a good sense of whether we're on the right track, slightly off-course, or totally lost on our individual journeys. Once we've assessed that, the thing that really matters most is what we decide to do next.

Congratulations on your success, and enjoy your cruise!

I work 2 different jobs, one is at a concrete plant, the other is a commission sales job. The contrast between the two is amazing. Alot of the guys at the plant are satisfied with just what they have, from just having a job, to others getting on their feet, to the ones getting ready to retire. Sure there are those who don't like their job, and are just there for the money, and benefits. But overall most are just happy to stay afloat. You can tell, who is more balanced then the other, just by their attitudes. In the sales job, it is quite the opposite, from the constant preasure to be more productive, the difference in attitudes towards the salesperson who is not as productive as another. It is a real cold place, and trust is minimal. To be happy with what you have is in my opinion a balance. Sure we all work at bettering ourselves, but the times when things don't work out or don't go as planned. Does not mean we are bad at what we do or that our plans were wrong. Life is the journey we make it, and it always has its ups and downs, and it is our reaction to them, that determines our state of being.

Lighthouse,
Yes this morning I was focusing on myself, and was taking a few moments to see what "my" needs are and if 'I'm" doing what "I" need to be doing, it was early this morning and I just thought hmmm maybe it's time to take a few mintues to evaluate myself if I'm not on the right track how can I lead my team? Trust me I help my team soo much and am always there to tell them where they at where they need to be and keep them motivated it's not always an "I" with me I hope you realize where I'm coming from.
My husband always tells me I put I in my blogs too much but it when says tell us about yourself I have a hard time not saying I all the time. LOL thank you for pointing out how many I's I used my husband will get a good laugh from this one.
Anyway thank you for your comments I hope you have a fabulous day :o)

Canadian2,
Thank you so much for your comments WoW I love it, you really hit it on the head thank you so much this morning was my time to really evaulate myself, so I can make sure I'm on the right track, in order to lead my team. Today it was more personal for me than business. I love what you said

"Life is the journey we make it, and it always has its ups and downs, and it is our reaction to them, that determines our state of being."

Thank you I think I'll put this on my fridge lol..

Natalie, please don't think I was suggesting that you are self-centered or anything (I don't know you or anything about you.) I did understand the nature of your inward evaluation, and took it to be exactly that -- I just also found it to be an interesting contrast to what was driving me at that moment, and that contrast what I was trying to illustrate relative to the question you posed. Honestly, your approach can be "healthier" than mine a good portion of the time, but as I said, there's really no "right" or "wrong" or "good" or "bad" -- just different people with different needs and motivators.

I'm sure everyone has feelings similar to yours at one time or another...to be content would have different meanings for everyone...I think one needs to find a level of happiness from within and then you will feel content no matter where you are...it is good to set obtainable goals and reach them...however small or big...I wish I were on a cruise right now to the caribbean...it's freezing here today.

I have often heard it said that I will never be satisfied...this may be true.
