Plagarism and copyright infringement are not areas I want to get into so how will I know how much information I can get from local news releases and community calendars, etc. that I can use to keep putting fresh local information on my own website? Want to be informative but not illegally.

Some site will have disclosure on them about what you can/cannot use and or link to. Your other alternative is to call the company directly and ask permissions.

Many if you "credit" them or link back will not have a problem. Some companies specifically state you cannot embed or link to their site/content.

Look into RSS feeds with auto-updates.
