Hi all, I'm a student in Nashville, Tennessee and I'm trying to start a
High School Lacrosse
team.
Lacrosse isn't a sanctioned school sport in Tennessee, so we're
basically on our own in terms of funding the program. I was wondering
if you guys had ideas on getting the money to
fund it,
like corporate sponsorships and other opportunities.

Any fundraising idea that a school club might use (but that hasn't been done in your area recently) would be a good start. For lots of ideas and potentially helpful links, you might visit:

http://www.simplylacrosse.com/lacrosse-fundraising.html

Corporate sponsorship is really a longshot in the early stages -- but once you get a reasonable number of participants and spectators involved, it becomes more viable. So I wouldn't start there, but rather save for later when you can offer something to a corporate sponsor in return (a market).

Good luck!

Starting a High School Lacrosse Team, Welcome

If I was a student and was trying to start a Lacrosse team, I would contact your local newspaper and see if you can find a reported (maybe a sports reporter) who would be interested in writing a story about the subject.
Also what would it take to make Lacrosse sanctioned as a school sport. That is another story.
How much funds do you need to start.

Good luck, LUCKIEST

Adding to what Luckiest suggested . . . even though the first written lacrosse rules came out of Canada, the sport is Native American in origin. So another tack for free publicity and support might be for your club to put on a demonstration as part of any event or celebration you may have in your local area that includes ties to Native American culture or history.

My athletic director said about $10,000 but my calculations suggest between $5,000 and $8,000, depending on how much the players put in themselves.

I have a friend who played Major League Lacrosse and now has his own club team. He also works for one of the top lacrosse manufactures as a sales rep.

From time to time they help schools out with equipment and uniforms.

Give me a little more information on your school and I will see what I can find out.

Good Luck!

What information do you need? The school is East Literature Magnet High School in Nashville, Tennessee.

Give me a name of someone I can talk with at your school?

How many kids are interested in playing that you know of?

What county is the school system in?

Are there other schools in your district that have lacrosse teams?

That should get me started.

Scott Carter (Coach)

Tracy Spears (School Sponsor)

tracy.spears@mnps.org

I have about 20-25 kids that have an interest in playing lacrosse that I have written down. The school is in Davidson County. And yes, there are schools in our district that have lacrosse teams. Here is a link to show which schools have joined the TSLA (Tennessee Scholastic Lacrosse Association) : http://www.tnlax.com/player_tsla.aspx?opt=0

Have you been to www.tnlax.com?
You also might want to contact Josh Scouten at USN, he is the President of the Tennessee chapter and would be a great place to start.
