Does anyone have any knowledge of the B2G Institute?

Hello everyone, I am still very new to this forum but from reading other questions and comments I have learned alot. I hope to be able to contribute more in the future.

My drilling business is just over a year old. To increase my business I am looking into selling my services directly to the federal government as a small business set aside and teaming with a larger business for the services that I cannot provide (instead of being a sub contracter on these jobs).

I am considering taking a 3 day workshop, and getting support for 1 year, from the B2G Institute (How to win government contracts for your business). I am very interested but their specialty seems to be all over the place (i.e. large businesses, small businesses, individuals). They say they teach you to do many different things that involve selling to the federal government.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the B2G Institute, training programs, counseling services?

My only first hand experience with them was a local workshop (sales pitch, actually -- an aggressive, "insult marketing" style of sales pitch). That was enough to turn off most people who were present (me included), but a few people there signed up for the 3-day program. As you noted, the instructors' specialties are diverse, so my gut feeling is that those who signed up are owners of businesses in discplines that are closely related to the instructor's background. Perhaps other members can add more insight. Be sure to let us know what you thought if you attend! Best wishes.

geobiz,

Great topic! Keep me (and the community) posted on what you find out. I'd love to land a government contract.

Good luck

I went to the seminar yesterday. I found it useful if daunting, which is what I generally find government contracting to be. If B2G can cut through just half the crap, that would be worth $3,500. But who wants to waste 3 days to find out? Doesn't anyone have any information after having taken the course???

I went to their free seminar in NYC. They don't tell you this at the seminar, but they have a take-home course that's a bit less expensive ($995). Also, they extend the offer for the $3500 price (as opposed to the $5000 that you would allegedly normally be paying) if you decide to sign up at a later date.

My impression (at least for my line of work) is that marketing to the government could have high payoff at a reasonably low cost. I didn't like the guy's sales pitch either, but I think that if B2G really offers the services that they say they do (coaching for one year, helping to optimize visibility to goverment clientele), then it might be worth it. Government contracts are usually pretty sizeable (we've done a few before), and even a small piece of the government's pie will pay for a 3-day seminar and then some - so they are right about that. But like anything else, it's a gamble.

I'll post again if my company decides to use their services.

Good luck.

We went to the B2G free workshop and it was like sitting through a 3 hour infomercial, or listening to a time share sales person. The sales pitch was extremely aggressive and insulting.

However, if they can back up their claims, and help you get contracts, I agree it would be worth it. It would be nice to hear from real companies who have had real success with them.

In the mean time I am going to attend the free workshop given by the government.

If anyone attends the program and uses B2G's supposed year long marketing support, PLEASE give us a review.

I went to the seminar yesterday and signed up for the program in Chicago on the 19, 20, and 21st. I also plan to take one of my employees with me. I have not read ANYTHING negative about the company and am hopeful that it will do for me what they say they can do.

I just signed up for that free GSA Schedule class - why not get all we can get for FREE yes? We are also very interested to hear how that class went in Chicago. Please give us a frank evaluation. Dying to hear.

emsijo, now you have taken the class, what's your feedback about B2G, thanks? I'm thinking about taking the 3 days training. Appreciate your feedback.

I did plan to go to the 3 day seminar but then I did further research. The "how to jump through the hoops" knowledge is very nice to have but I really needed someone to do most of the work for me. I found a guy in Florida though a member of my CEO group locally. He will see you through the GSA process for about $3,500 one on one. It will take about 3 months. He only works with people who he feels has a real chance at landing contracts. He will assit with the RFP and then take 3% of the contract if you get it as payment. He only gets paid if you win so he will not waste time with contracts that have no chance of panning out for you. Ironically Milwaukee and Chicago were buried in snow last Friday. I closed down my office. I would have never made it to the seminar anyway.
