Yes, 5K is steep. Our company has done websites for others with startup cost of only $450.00 and monthly hosting of $45.00 per month which can be paid upfront of 1 year or monthly by the 15th of each month.

Updates as you need them, anytime, as well as email address intergrated into your site, and not extensions(gmail, hotmail,yahoo) As well as 1 month of free advertising on an e-magazine Urban Tymes.

Just some thoughts to share regarding your website store:
  • not only do you need to think about how your website should look, but also understand what you need in terms of shipping, inventory, accounting, gift certificates, coupons, etc. Because, you can have the greatest looking website, but it can also make your life miserable because it doesn't do x, y or z (understand how x, y, and z impacts your time & effort which -if you cut there- can cost you much, much more in other areas.
  • We don't represent Volusion, but you should check out their award-winning solution offering for ecommerce @www.volusion.com. Feel free to contact us for any questions. They have a low initial set-up, you can do it all yourself of have us set it up for you. What's great is that you get a lot and it is only on a monthly basis with no contracts.

Akuma, I would suggest Yahoo Store as a solution that is very affordable and robust. If you can't find anyone to do the site for the right price, you can do A LOT yourself and never have to pay anyone. http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/ecommerce/

My advice is to not let anyone build you a custom shopping cart. Use a system like Yahoo, because if your developer ever disappears, at least you will be able to find people who can work on your website. We have seen so many people burned by small web developers.
