Hello
I want to start my own web hosting. How much would it cost me to develop my project. This is feasible and I am partnering w/ advertisers, too. Thank you!

Hi Missy,

All it takes to be a web host is to lease a server that will allow you to set up multiple domains through a backend interface like CPANEL or PLESK.

The server is going to cost you about $125 a month for something that could handle a number (around 100) small domains with no unreasonable data usage.

Other than that, the advertising is up to you, and there are many free resources.

One caveat .. you would be a small fish in a very big sea might find better uses for that $125 that would result in a much better return.

Also with hosting, you should be technically literate on the server side or have someone that is to help you out.

Let me know if you have more questions.

It all depends on what you are trying to achieve :)

Web hosting is very competitive... You would have to spend thousands of dollars actually in order to turn in a profit at the end of the day.

It depends on the scale of the operation.

I have run a very profitable hosting business with some of my webdev clients for over 6 years on one server. Earn around $600 per month on a $115 outlay.

No thousands spent here. Your mileage may vary!

Sure, if you want to have a collection of rack servers like The Planet, you can spend those thousands a day, but for a single server, it is an easy entry in to the field if you are not expecting too much from one server.
