Hi all,

I and a small group of Yale SOM students are currently evaluating the feasibility of a social enterprise concept. If you are a small business owner, please consider taking the following survey: http://yale.qualtrics.com/SE?SID=SV_83cQHGCqanA4vuk&SVID=Prod . Completing the survey should only take 1 minute.

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Best,

Matt

Welcome to the Community! Are you a student from Yale? I'm thinking that you may get participation if you provide more information on the type of research you are doing - what this is for, what you will be learning, etc. Good luck!

Hi MetroGal -

Thank you for the suggestion! Yes, we are a team of students from the Yale School of Management. We are evaluating whether or not to launch a nonprofit social enterprise that connects businesses to the nonprofit sector in their community by offering a discount to nonprofit sector employees in exchange for marketing and increased community awareness of their social involvement. It is integral for us to see how businesses from a variety of geographies and categories view this concept and that is why we've launched this survey. Participation really only takes one minute and would be invaluable in our decision to launch this enterprise!

Please let me know if I can add any more information. Otherwise, thank you all so much for your participation!

I visited the survey -- would suggest that you specify/target small businesses that serve individual customers. For those of us who are business-to-business, the responses might skew your results in ways you didn't intend. Also, I was unable to get the questions that have visual gauges to change -- continued to read "0" no matter what I did.

I think the same would be true for manufacturers and wholesalers, as well -- really the survey seems most appropriate for owners of small retail businesses that sell products or services to individual customers, but not to small business owners in general. Good luck with your project.

Hi Lighthouse -

I very much appreciate your sound suggestion. This survey does indeed pertain only to business to consumer small businesses; I apologize for not clarifying that upfront. With regards to the gauges, I've just tested it on two computers and it worked OK for me. Perhaps the page didn't fully load when you attempted to take the survey?

Again, thank you for your time.

Best,

Matt

I was able to access the survey and submitted my responses. One quick unsolicited suggestion: it wasn't so intuitive for me when I had to move that metered rating scale from 0 - 10. Also, there's an arrow looking button on the end vs. a submit button. It might be more intuitive if it read submit. Anyway...the last thing you want is a critique on my experience.

Good luck with your findings and study hard.

Hi Howard -

Thanks for taking the survey and, more importantly, for feedback on experience with the survey interface. I'll try and see if I can add a note in there to explain the meter, though I'm not sure if it will allow me to without creating two seperate pools of results.

Again, many thanks!

All,

I appreciate your help and support thus far. The answers everyone has given have been very helpful! Please take one minute to take the survey if you haven't had the opportunity to already. Again, your help will be invaluable in our decision of whether or not to launch this nonprofit social enterprise - and it only takes you one minute!

Best regards,

Matt
