Can anyone tell me how much a simple e-commerce website will cost to set up? I don't know anything about SEO or any of that stuff, so I'd want that to be part of the package too. Thanks!

Dear NoBull,
I own a small web design firm in Coral Springs Florida. Getting a website is kinda like buying a car. Price depends upon features. A small, content driven website with about 10 pages will run you about $1500 with a custom developed interface design. Adding Macromedia Flash elements and some more bells and whistles will add to pricing. SEO or SEP (search engine placement) is a different issue. Please feel free to call my office should you need further help.

Hi NBF, here are two ways you can do this:

  • paypal pro (cheapest solution)
  • shopping cart merchant solutiono by authorize.net (expensive solution)
Your online business should be developed in the following order:

1. Web development/design/SEO
2. Shopping cart integration
3. Merchant integration and SSL so your transactions are 128 bit encryted
4. Product placement/description/options
5. Beta Launch/test and debug
6. Live Website Launch

Please keep in mind that it also depends on how many products you want to sale, the more products the more it will cost you. Not only it will cost you more if you have more than 200 products, you will also need a dedicated host for the site to handle all the proceeses i.e. scripts, database, cpu, bandwidth, disk speed, ram, etc...

Be aware of turnkey solutions that offer everything for a flat fee per month as this method is not the best in my opinion. I would recommend that you get a solution that you have the rights to, that you are able to sell one day and make a profit.

So, please tell me more about your ecommerce objetives and I will give you a quote right here so it is visible by everyone. This way, people can compete and offer the best price they can.

Note: I have been working in this industry for 12 years and have worked for furtune 500 companies so I can do the job for you but I want to make sure everyone here who has credibility to have a chance to to bid on this project.

Alright, please post details and I will reply. This should be a very informative session.

Best

The best way to start an e-commerce for a newbie is Yahoo store. Everything is included in their pack. It will give you an idea on how to run an e-commerce without paying the full price compared to an independant e-commerce like mine. The first year is the hardess time for an e-commerce, and you don't want to spend a lot money before you know that your e-commerce will grenerate decent revenues.

Good Luck
