My wife asked me this same question last night, so I am posing it to the community. Why do you spend time on forums like this?

For me the answer is simple:

1. I am always looking for new clients
2. When I can I really do enjoy helping people

What about you?

Because I am bored! LOL

No the real answer is just like yours, I am always trying to find new sub-contractors because I buy properties all over the country and I have gotten some good response on this board. And secondly the housing market is plain bad now, so I think I can help some people since I have been able to still keep my head above water.

My initial reason for joining this community was the same as one of yours -- to try to post responses that would help somebody. I'm currently rebuilding from a summer tornado and flooding, managing a difficult client project, and dealing with a serious family illness. Because each of those things requires me to "be there" at certain times (and because I have to travel between the three), I can't take on as much training or consulting work as I'd like right now. These forums allow me to do what I do, whenever I can, from wherever I have to be, without obligation. Now that I've been on board for about a month, the secondary reasons are emerging: I've learned things here, I've met some sharp people, and I've been reminded more than once to count my blessings (because a lot of business owners have bigger problems than I do).

I find that it's simply amazing how helpful people can be and I particularly like this forum because the positive responses, the willingness to help of the members and also I learn something new. Promoting oneself and one's business is important too.

I've loved teaching and mentoring all of my life. Even the social network that I am developing will be focused on these two activities. This forum is a great opportunity to help others that need it. I also learn a lot from others. I think it's really an amazing mentoring network for business owners. I've been very happy with how many people seem to feel the same way.

I am always looking for new marketing / business development ideas and the best place to get them is from real people dealing with real issues. You never know what you can find (or come up with). By contributing back what I can I hope to make it a fair exchange.

I spend time on communities to gain quick acess to information and questions from a trusted group of people. I think business owners can learn alot from one another, even if they are in differnet businesses. We could all benefit from some time saving tips and aviodance of pitfalls. Thanks for all of the information shared.

I feel that the forum is kind of like a sounding board. All of ideas and questions get put out so everyone can see and comment on them. I learn things from how other businesses operate and what others are doing.

I also like that you don't have to be somewhere at a certain time to network. I can do this on my schedule.
