I started my business by buying from a wholesaler. I'm looking to expand and open a store rather than a home business. I have been looking for Distributors online and calling, but all I find is the same kind of wholesalers I have been buying...I can't find where THEY shop.. Anyone that can help will be greatly appreciated.

Jay.

According to two of my large retail clients, the major fragrance houses (L'Oreal, Estee Lauder, LVMH, Chanel, etc.) have their own selective distribution networks, and are basically in control of which retail outlets and chains should be admitted to those networks. In general, buyers for those outlets deal directly with the manufacturer, and they account for about 88 percent of perfume sales. A handful of wholesalers are also in the network (probably the ones you keep seeing), and they merchandise to the small independent retailers. So those wholesalers are probably who you would have to continue to buy from, at least for fine fragrances. That might not be what you wanted to hear, but I hope the info helps. Good luck on your expansion!

Good answer from Lighthouse. Before you expand and open a store, think about Developing
a BUSINESS and MARKETING PLAN. Also remember it is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.
By opening a store, you have to sign a lease, have construction costs for improvements and
maybe a larger inventory. Do you have a Lawyer??, an Accountant?? Do you have the funds??
Securing a location, you should identify the market and it's size.
Good luck, LUCKIEST

Lighthouse has definitely given you a great answer but you may also want to think about selling online, there are so many women who constantly buy the favorite fragrances and makeup that they never need to run into a store to pick them up.
