Advise on Starting a Healthcare Personnel/Recruitment Agency

I am interested in starting a recruitment/personnel agency. My target market would be recruitment and hiring for nursing homes, and hospitals and pharmacies.

My strategy is to start at the nursing home and recruitment for other low level personnel in hospitals. As I build experience, confidence and network, I plan to expand to high level position recruitment (doctors, pharmacies, etc).

Is there anyone here who has done this or has experience in this type of business; whom would share some feedback with me?

Thank you.

Both of my daughters are nurses...they swear by 'private duty' and both earn above average wages.

That being said, you are going to have to have incentives for the best people to come and work for you. Talent is not inexpensive. Find a few good people and get on the phone!

The people you recruit can help you as well...they know all there is to know. (trust me).

This is a tough and very competitive business, particularly if you are in a large city. You also need deep pockets as your payroll is usually weekly and your receipts take anywhere from 30/60/90 days to come in.

Are you thinking in terms of a temporary service or a direct hire (recruiting) business? If your plan is as a direct hire agency, prepare for at least a six month period before your first dollar is earned. It takes several months to develop business and accumulate an inventory of recruits. All that being said, if you have the financial resources for staying power, it can be a lucrative business. I have been in it for over 28 years as a direct hire company and 18yrs as a Temporary service.

Thank you for the response. I am thinking temporary hire to start...to minimize insurance, and other expenses. As I gain experience and build clientele, I intent to expand to direct hire.

Do you have any specific tip you could share with me on starting and operationg such business, and pitfall to avoid?

Thank you.

Luckies,

Yes, I am currently a real estate investor. However, I want to "diversify". In fact, this was what I wanted to start before I got into real estate investing.

So much depends on the type of Temporary Staffing you intend on doing and what facets of Health Care will be your clients. You are in New Jersey so count on hefty Workers Compensation Insurance rates and likewise with Liability Insurance. If you plan on servicing Hospitals, they almost all require 100/300 Million liability coverage. As to pitfalls...watch your cash-flow and keep your overhead low and make sure that your mark-up gives you a decent profit margin.

The test methods employed include digital radiography and ultrasonic testing for foil products and ingots, scanning electron microscopy for micro examination of metal properties and characteristics, metallographic analysis for determination of material properties, calibration for pgm thermocouple wire, instrumentation analysis using XRF, wet and spark ICP and Gravimetric analysis.
