Congratulations! What type of R&D is it? Sometimes there are grants & loans that are industry specific. Or a times you can find private corporations to fund it, if you provide them with the results, etc. A lot of R&D is funded by private corporations. If you tell us more, maybe we can help further. Good luck!

HAve you checked with the SBA small business administration? My understanding is that they may have special minority programs, as well as general funding. You will need a business plan.

Creative Fusion may be your answer. There is a fee but you get a mentor as well to help you through the process. They are on the web: www.creativefusion.com

How much are you looking for? SBA may be a good option for you if the amount is not so big.

Having been a graduate student in science, I have some experience with seeing how R&D money works. For example, my research was about characterizing the materials that will go into future computers. Thus, we got money from computer companies, like Intel and IBM. You'll want to look for companies that you could imagine one day wanting to sell your invention.

Plus, you are going to need to tell them something, even if it's limited information. There are some previous posts about having an executive summary to show. They aren't just going to give you money for what you claim is a good idea. Be sure to be ready to tell them what they get for their money. They are interested in profits, not whether or not your invention is made. Good luck!
