Adducent, the problem with a kiosk is that it would be too small but at the same time it maybe something to start off with. Thanks for the lengthy advice.

I think in your situation (still finishing your degree); it would be best to focus on finishing up your degree ... AND try to save up some capital.

You're not in a situation where you need to make a quick decision because you want (or need) whats known as a "first movers advantage". If you really have the 'itch' to do something and need to 'scratch' it; do it on a small scale with little (if any) financial exposure. Use that experience (good or bad) as one to learn from ... real world experience will complement your studies for your degree.

My financial advisor once told me that you can always make more money but you cant make more time. Funny a advisor told me that but the point is if this is your dream I would follow thru. If there is one thing I would pass on from owning a business is prepare enough to be able to just dive in. Create a business plan working our your 1 year, 3 year, 5 year projections comparing to your competitors, and of coarse adding in your differentiating factors and if it looks profitable then congradulations.

I have a business plan written up for 2 years to start, just to get things off the ground. I'm going to try and make an appointment to see a local SCORE counselor soon.

Welcome to the world of the entrepreneur...

First, I would like to offer you a positive statement - There has never been a better time in history to start your own business! Until you prove the worth of the products or service you want to sell, it may not be a good idea to start a store-front business. Start with one of the many options you have available to you regarding a virtual store at eBay, Google, Yahoo and more.

Second, you may not know exactly what your first business should be. My recommendation is to sit down and write up everything you like...hobbies, products, services etc. Now write-up everything you think is wrong with what you like. If you can offer more benefits, better benefits, unique benefits to what is out there, you may have the beginnings of a new business.

Check out my site, www.answerguy.info if I can help guide you in your effort to achieve your goals, please let me know.

You do not want to put your dream on hold.
You must have a "Burning Desire", a strong "Why" to achieve your dreams and goals. It needs to be written down.
You need to associate yourself with good wealth inspiring books. My suggestion Think and Grow Rich. I can send you a free ebook copy if you don't have it.
You need an excellent mentor or success coach to help coach you to success. I can make a good suggestion for you.
You need to be coachable or none of the above will work.

Miyoshi, all of the positve affirmations won't make you successful. For that, you need passion and hard work, or just plain dumb luck. You're yound, and you obviously already have the passion, so you're further along than most .... but....

You note that you are about to get your degree in business but you're not good at accounting and finance (aka business). You need to rethink your path. Without some sense of business, you've either got to have great timing or great luck, or experience. You have no experience and you know the economy sucks right now, so if you don't have a product that is just plain "hot", you'd better not set up "brick and mortar" for a while.

Don't give up on your passion, and continue to work hard, (Gary player once noted "it seems the harder I work, the luckier I get") but work with the internet for a while. Gather some momentum. Learn how to use the internet as a marketing tool and how to get yourself and your product to stand out. The continued education will be invaluable, and far less costly than setting up shop.

Best of Luck

Decide what you want to do and get a job in that business.
Learn the ropes while you work on paying you student loan.
Then when you are ready you will know the business inside out.
Do not start a business of you own owing big money or borrowing money to start your business.

Look into sharing space. Start small, work your way up. As always you should have experience in the area that you would like to start. Like the other response SCORE is a great place to start with a objective opinion.

Some consider now a great time to start. Lots of help out their.

Good Luck..
