How Can I Avoid Re-start-up Mistakes?

I am planning on re-starting my pet grooming business. One of my concerns is that the last time my business identity and logo didn't seem to fit my business or reach my target audience. I pretty much have decided on a name and now I need a logo that will truly represent me. I need to get this right the first time. I will be starting as a one person operation and can't afford to do this over and over. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

While a logo is part of it, I think a focus on serving your customers well and making them love you is what will ultimately determine your success. There are plenty examples of large companies with logos that don't really look like much of anything (like starbucks).

If you want a custom designed logo, i used GotLogos.com. It was pretty cheap and professional. The service is terrible, but they have a gallery of samples to choose from.

Yes - the logo is just one of the things to think about. Here is a checklist for your business start-up:

I recently launched a business (online retail) and was referred to Performance Logo - who were awesome. They're process is unique and helped me figure out what would work for my business. In my past, I've worked with ad agencies and freelancers, and frankly found these guys as good and much more reasonable - they gave me everything I need, even all my business cards, etc for a fixed fee. I would recommend your check them out:

good luck!

There are lots of logo design companies out there to choose from. I found most of them simply want to re-draw logos (a pretty picture) until I like it. I found the 'Beyond Opinion' Process used by www.performancelogo.com to be extremely helpful in focuing my thoughts on relevant business issues, not my personal likes and dislikes. After all, as they say,
Your logo isn't a work of art. It's art that works for your business.
Thank you Performance Logo!
