I would like to start my own business and open up a lounge/bar. Any advice?

Hi she1072002 and welcome to the community!

My first piece of advice is to work in. At every position if possible (host, server, bartender, manager). Nothing helps more than to experience yourself. You could even ask the owner to be a mentor.

Thanks for the reply.

I am actually about to take a bartending course and hopefully get a job as a bartender so that I can start having a feeling about the business. I will then plan out to start with a very small bar maybe and work my way up. I have heard that banks and investors are more willing to invest in established business more than on start ups. Am i on the right track?

If I personally was going to open a Lounge/Bar business, I would do the following
One, take a bartending course
Two, Hopefully get a job as a bartender
Three Visit SCORE. SCORE is FREE both online and in person
Finally, Develop a Business and marketing Plan ( and yes SCORE can help)

Thank you for your response. I will definately will be checking out your website. Is it true that the Lounge/Bar Business is very risky, but at the same time can be profitable if you manage it well.

Yes, your right opening any restaurant is risky...but you have to know your demographics and what type of clientel you want to reach out to. You also want to research similar restaurant concepts in your area and make sure there isnt something already existing like the lounge you want to make. I live in Brooklyn, New York and the area that is up and coming in BK, is downtown brooklyn. This will be my target location.
